My first plan was the Cosumnes River hike.  I was trying to think of places not too far away from our home in Land Park where my husband and I could go on the Fourth of July. Just to get out into the glorious summer day. He really dislikes driving long distances over holidays. The drivers irritate him immensely; whereas I barely acknowledge knuckleheads. Instead, I accept those drivers as a fact of life and just avoid them. But my husband takes every move they make as a personal affront. He is also concerned a drunk driver, and those numbers grow over the holidays, will smack into our car. Not an unreasonable concern. So walking it was. Besides, most people were spending time at home, so perfect time for us to get out. You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: A Lazy Four...

Myrl might call our lunch date an informal Active Rain Meetup, but I would not, really. But maybe that's because I don't spend much time on the website, and I'm darn lucky to make time to post a blog. Myrl is one of those exceptional people who comes along in life when one least expects it and turns into a wonderful friend. Although we did engage in a huge discussion over the type of flower on our table. You can see it pictured here. We decided to let an AR member pronounce the conclusion. And I also think our waiter had a big crush on Myrl. She is a beautiful woman. Myrl is not afraid to speak her mind, and that's one of the reasons I love going to lunch with Myrl. Something almost always happens that is out of the ordinary. She makes me laugh and vice versa. You can read more about our...

Looking for things to do in Sacramento this Halloween season? Be sure to catch the Spookamotive Train Ride. This delightful, not frightful train is just the ticket for the family. Ride the train along the levees of the river and listen to a whimsical Halloween story while the "skeleton" crew passes out a special toy treat for each child. On the return trip, rock to the music of the "Monster Mash" and other creepy, crawly Halloween songs. The diesel-powered train is decorated for the season with cornstalks, scarecrows, skeletons, bats and spiders. Each weekend has a different theme, so come dressed for the theme, or in your most favorite Halloween attire! As a special treat, discounted “combo” Halloween-themed train rides and river cruises are offered twice per day. For those also choosi...

A client's daughter moved out of a condo I sold in Woodside Sierra last month and into an apartment in Old Sacramento, right above the American River Bike Trail. She said she can see the river from her bed. It seems like it would be a lot of fun to live in Old Sacramento because it would be like being on vacation all of the time. Yup, even more fun, says its new resident, is the fact the bartender across the street is fabulous, and she swears that she can't be happy in her move if she doesn't have a good bartender at her disposal. Good advice, I guess. Like me, this person also rides a bike, but she doesn't know where the American River Bike Trail starts up again after hitting Old Sacramento. I often ride from Land Park to Old Sacramento along the bike trail but, until this weekend, I c...

All aboard !  Now this is a cool place!    This past weekend I was in Sacramento to see the Steve Miller Band.   Our hotel was just a few blocks from Old Town Sacramento.  Located in Old Town Sacramento is the California State Railroad Museum.   I think the last time I was there was for my youngest daughter's third grade field trip.  (maybe even second grade)   She is well into her twenties now so that was a few years ago.    I asked my girlfriend, Kelly if she would be interested in seeing the museum.  I could tell that she wasn't really excited about seeing a bunch of trains, it was after all her birthday weekend, but she said sure let's go.    If you have never been to the California State Railroad Museum, you should check it out the next time you are in the area.   This is a first c...
