The City of Rolling Hills will be reviewing the policy on barns and barn conversions either via ballot measure or the council adopting the proposal.   How the issue came up from the Peninsula News article by Jeremiah Dobruck: RH is entirely residential or undeveloped and is equestrian-friendly, with 26 miles of horse trails within its borders. Horsekeeping and equestrian activities are encouraged by zoning. Property owners are required to set aside 1,000 square feet of their land to use as a barn or corral whether they build one or not. Houses and all accompanying paving may take up only 35 percent of a lot. But a barn has none of those limits on square footage. Rain rolled back into California today.  A light mist was falling when we entered Rolling Hills to see two new listings today.  The first stop was a 5,182 sq. ft. home with guest house, pool and sports court listed for $4,900,000.  The rain stopped and gave us just enough time to tour the grounds and return to the car before a heavy fog rolled in followed by a steady mist.   As we progressed around blind curves the fog thickened and visibility was decreasing by the moment.  Coastal fog is like that--clear one minute, thick as pea soup the next.    "This is horse country,"  I cautioned the driver.  "One could be crossing the street and I don't really want a horse on my lap."  He laughed, made a left turn then braked hard at the crest of a hill.  Yes, two riders were leading their horses ... 02/15/2011

During the month of December I decided to purchase a bag of groceries for the local food bank each time I shopped for myself, and stuff all my $1.00 bills in the Salvation Army kettle each time I passed a bell ringer.  I think I received more "God Bless You" blessings this month than I received all year.  I notice no difference in my bank account but my heart and spirit are overflowing.   People need food, clothes and shelter every month of the year, not just during the holiday season.  Tomorrow I'm cleaning my closet and making a donation to Goodwill.  My rule of thumb will be "If I did not wear it in 2010 someone else will wear it in 2011.   I donate to the Children's Miracle Network each time I close a transaction, but I can do more.  In 2011 I plan to keep my eyes and heart open to ... 01/01/2011
