Los Angeles area home prices are projected to rise 5 percent by next October, according to a report issued by First American CoreLogic, a Santa Ana based real estate research firm.  The Santa Ana firm , however, did cite the fact that about 1.7 million homes nationally are on the verge of foreclosure, what they call a nationwide "shadow inventory" that could weigh down prices as the properties come on the market.

The best area is near Sharynne Lane and Doris Way, and some people believe that Reese Road is the best of the best. More and more of the signs are pointing the way to the fact that now may be the best time in a generation to buy a home on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and the South Bay of Los Angeles.  As noted in my post below,  home prices in the area appear to have stabilized, and in most areas are increasing on a month to month basis compared to the prior month.  Today,, it was reported that interest rates have dropped to an historical low. The average rate on a 30 year fixed rate mortgage dropped to 4.78% in the week that ended Wednesday , tying a record set in April, home loan buyer Freddie Mac said. This is based on a survey of borrowers who have good credit and at least a 20% down payment. Points were an average 0.7%. After an especially hot August I've noticed I'm starting to grab a sweater before I walk out the door.  It is subtle, but the chill in the evening air is announcing the arrival of autumn this week.  Not only is it time to pull out the sweaters it is also time to pull out all the stops and finish the year strong.   I review my business plan at the end of each quarter (actually it is posted by my desk so it is never out of sight).  I have attained some goals, revised a few others and I have three more months to work on them all.  Out of six primary focus points set last December for 2009 four are fully implemented, one is partially in place and the sixth is languishing in undeveloped limbo.   I'm energized by the cooler air, the uptick in real estate sales in Palos Verdes and the challeng...

As many of you may know, my husband Bruce and I have been leading a petition drive to have the County of Los Angeles use a portion of the previous Palos Verdes Landfill in Rolling Hills Estates as a dog park, or to establish a dog park on another suitable site on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. There is a tremendous unmet need for an off-leash dog park on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The nearest dog park is at least a 20 minute drive away in Redondo Beach off of 190th Street, or at a temporary dog park in San Pedro which is scheduled to close in the next few years as it is on Port of Los Angeles land. The median price of a home in Southern California moved up again in the month of August by 2.6% to $275,000, according to real estate research firm MDA DataQuick. But the number of homes sold, although up 11% from August 2008, was down 10.8% from July. Southern California's median home price climbed for a fourth straight month in August, boosted by investors snatching up homes in distant suburbs and a relative decline in foreclosed homes for sale. The market bottomed out in April at a $247,000 median, the San Diego company said. UCLA economist Edward Leamer stated that "although home values are still dropping in many neighborhoods, rising home sales and median prices are "all symptomatic of a bottoming out" and the worst days of the housing market are probably over". Nantucket Crossing is a classic gift shop located in the Town & Country Shopping Center at 867 Silver Spur Road in Rolling Hills Estates next to the Bristol Farms market.  Nantucket Crossing is owned by David and Judy Adishian who are both wonderful people.  You will usually see at least one of them in the store or be greeted by Marilyn Ortner, a long time friend and sales associate  The store has been open for over 20 years.   Marilyn and I inside of Nantucket Crossing David's motto for the store is "Great Gifts for Great People", and the Adishians try to provide an interesting mix of items for their customers.  They have gifts for all ages, including wonderful plush toys and dolls for children, beautiful items for the home including silver trays and bowls, unique glassware, and more. ...

Wagon Wheel Ranch Trail Rides ( 310- 567-3582) located on Moccasin Lane in Rlling Hills Estates, across the street from Rancho Vista Elementary School, has been providing guided horse back trail rides through the hillside trails of the Palos Verdes Peninsula for the last several years.  He has been especially active in providing equestrian group trail rides to youth groups throughout the area. Plans for the 228 acre development project slated for the Chandler Palos Verdes Sand and Gravel pit in Rolling Hills Estates continue to move forward. Plans for development on the site include the construction of a new golf course for the Rolling Hills Country Club as well as 114 luxury homes. The city recently released a state-required environmental report on the project, which has been in the planning stages for about six years. Part of the property is in Torrance, which has agreed to swap 32 acres with Rolling Hills Estates so that the residential portion of the project can remain in the latter city.
