Making a decision to become a homeowner is on the minds of many renters at this very moment.  Will we really find an affordable home in a neighborhood that we like?  Should we take advantage of the lowest interest rates in 40 years?  We're comfortable paying rent at around $1100 per month, but can we really afford our own home at this time?           A quick way to find out what you can afford is to do the following calculation.  Take your present monthly rent, say $1100, and think of it as a monthly mortgage payment.  Assume that generally $330 of that total would be used to pay property taxes, and mortgage and fire insurance each month.  Thus, your basic loan principle and interest would total $770.  Now, take the present prime lending rate, which now hovers at 4.89%, and apply it to ...

To my friends in Ridgecrest: After finishing a horseback ride in the desert, my friend Gloria and I decided to go out for breakfast. There was an article in the Swap Sheet a couple of weeks back that indicated that Maddy's Cottage was going to start serving breakfast (actually, last Friday morning was their first day of doing that) and we decided to try it. It was fabulous! We shared our individual orders: corned beef hash with 2 eggs and hash browns and a breakfast Quesadilla. Their coffee is Farmer Bros. Seattle dark roast and delicious. The waitress was very attentive. The acoustics were quiet with soft sophisticated music in the background which allowed us to have a subdued conversation. Our little town (Ridgecrest) has been very busy this past month!! We are very fortunate to be in Ridgecrest! Our multiple listing service currently shows only 144 homes on the market, a whopping 74 IN ESCROW (hurray!), and 59 that have actually closed escrow this year!! VA/FHA interest rates were 4.75% yesterday! I am excited to announce...I took my broker exam last Wednesday, and passed... Happy House Hunting...

Ridgecrest is located in the Mojave Desert east of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and west of Death Valley.  History of Ridgecrest  In 1941, the town was called Crumville.   Prior to the establishment of the Naval Ordnance Test Station (NOTS) at Inyokern in 1941, only a few scattered farms and homesteads were here. Ridgecrest was then incorporated in 1963.  Ridgecrest evolved during the 1950's and 1960's as a support community, vital to the mission of NOTS, by providing housing and services for Federal employees and contractors.
