Follow The Yellow Brick Road... To Rancho Cucamonga! Ruby slippers, the Lollipop Guild, flying monkeys - I think you know where I'm going with this. If you haven't seen The Wizard of Oz, go rent it. I'll wait. Okay, back? NOW do you see why I'm excited that the Lewis Family Playhouse here in Rancho Cucamonga will be showing The Wizard of Oz July 14th - July 22nd? I used to love the part where the movie went from black-and-white to color and while that may be missing from this production, all the rest of your old favorites will be there - the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, Scarecrow, Dorothy, Toto and of course the Wicked Witch of the West (side note, if you like Wizard of Oz, you might want to pick up the book "Wicked"). My absolute favorite thing about The Wizard of Oz, though, has to be the ...

Rancho Cucamonga? There's an App For That! In the State of the City address last Wednesday, Rancho Cucamonga's Mayor Dennis Michael debuted the new RC2GO application for iPads and iPhones. The new app would allow residents to register for city classes, find local restaurants, report graffiti, and much, much more. What's interesting about this is it's one of fairly few city smartphone applications available. The Mayor noted in his speech that while apps have been flooding the market in the private sector, they have been largely absent from the public sector. In looking at what the app offers (read more here), I would say it's a no-brainer. If you have an Apple smartphone and you live in Rancho Cucamonga, why not download this application for instant access to everything the city has to o...

Fourth of July Fun in Rancho Cucamonga! Obviously, the 4th of July means more to us than just fireworks. It's a time to celebrate our wonderful country and honor those who have given their lives to keep us free. It's a time to spend with family and friends, enjoy some barbecue, and really appreciate how blessed we are living in the US. And of course, no July 4th celebration would be complete without fireworks! Here in Rancho Cucamonga we are having a Fireworks Spectacular at the Rancho Cucamonga Epicenter on Rochester. The parking lot opens at at 5:30pm, the main doors and concessions open at 6pm, games and activities start at 6:30pm, and fireworks start at 9pm. Tickets are $8 now and $10 at the door. Come on down for some fun!

Ultimate Relaxation in Rancho Cucamonga! Who wouldn't love to be pampered, have all of your stress massaged away, AND walk away with smoother skin? I know in this economy it seems hard to justify to ourselves those little "luxuries" like massages and facials, but when you look at the cost/benefit analysis it really is worth it. First off, Dreamscape Spa here in Rancho Cucamonga is my personal favorite and they're having a special right now for $40 for an hour massage. That's a little more than a large specialty pizza. For $105 you can get unlimited sauna, an hour Massage, and choice of hydrotherapy (the hydrotherapy are soothing baths with essential oils and herbs based on what you want - for example they have one for sore joints and one for cellulite). That's almost 2 hours of full-on ...

There's More Good Will in Rancho Cucamonga! If you've read my previous posts, you know how much I love living in Rancho Cucamonga. Here's one more reason to be proud of my city - Chaffey College here in Rancho Cucamonga has partnered with Goodwill Southern California to raise money for their programs and campus events. This is good for everyone involved because the school gets desperately needed funds and Goodwill gets equally-desperately needed items that they can sell to further their cause. For those of you not familiar with Goodwill, they have a franchise of secondhand shops all across the country, which they use to enhance the "dignity and quality of life of individuals, families and communities by eliminating barriers to opportunity and helping people in need reach their fullest p...

Rancho Cucamonga Has a Lot at Steak! While I will admit to being a fairly good cook, I still love going out with my husband to dinner and one of our favorite places is The Sycamore Inn Prime Steak House. It was built in 1848 (making it the oldest dinner house in Rancho Cucamonga) and was originally a tavern and inn for travelers heading through Southern California. After the turn of the century, the dirt road in front of the restaurant was paved and became Route 66, which as you can imagine brought a lot of exciting and interesting folks from all over the country.   The decor is elegant but not stuffy, and the food is heavenly. Their signature dish is an aged, slow-roasted, hand-carved prime rib that my husband just loves. I usually have trouble deciding between my two favorites - the h...

Rancho Cucamonga Creates Fund for Wounded Military The Rancho Cucamonga Community and Arts Foundation announced in May the creation of the Wounded Military Fund. The foundation was inspired to create the Fund by Rancho Cucamonga resident United States Marine Corporal Justin Crabbe. Corporal Crabbe was critically wounded while serving in Afghanistan. The Fund will provide financial resources for all of the wounded or injured military members and their families to assist in relieving some of their financial burdens.   Anyone who is interested in supporting this wonderful cause and would like to make a donation should make checks payable to the Rancho Cucamonga Community & Arts Foundation and note “Wounded Military Fund”. Also please note whether it is a general donation or for a specific...

Professional Women Get Ahead in Rancho Cucamonga! I spoke a little about the Rancho Cucamonga Women's Club the other day, but it's such a great organization that it deserved its own post! Started in 1969, this "club" is really a wonderful group that brings women together to network professionally, as well as just to chat about life and have fun. Monthly luncheon meetings in the winter months, cards and games gatherings, day trips, picnic - the list goes on and on!Not only is it a wonderful place to meet new friends and business associates, but they are also a very powerful (and underappreciated) force in the community. The Women's Club donated $10,000.00 to the City of Rancho Cucamonga to sponsor the Jane Austen Study room in the new cultural center, provide scholarships for local high ...

Forget Napa, For the Best Wine, Come to Rancho Cucamonga! It's a well-kept secret that there are several wineries here in Rancho Cucamonga, but they're well worth a visit. My favorite is the award winning Joseph Filippi Winery (which of course has nothing to do with Sangria Weekends from June until Labor Day).   Started over 90 years ago, it is still run by the same family today and you can see the pride and care in everything they do. I would recommend taking one of their tours and finishing up with a wine tasting - go on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon to have some delicious treats to go with the wine. Even if you're not a big wine drinker, it's worth it to check out this little winery - gorgeous surroundings, friendly people, and California sunshine. What more could you ask for?

Fewer Headaches in Rancho Cucamonga Rancho Cucamonga residents will have one less headache to worry about come next year. The City Council has finally approved a $6.5 million contract to renovate the storm drains in the area where the Metrolink tracks, two cramped streets and an far outdated flood-control system all meet. Due to flooding from inadequate storm drainage, this area been a nightmare over the years for motorists in the area. In addition to eliminating the traffic hazard of open ditches on either side of the street, it will save local businesses from having to pay extra flood zone insurance. Construction will begin this July and will be completed early next year. It will be a hassle for a while having construction going on, but it'll be worth it once it's completed.

I love stories that show us the wonderful young people there are today, instead of always only hearing about the bad apples. Well, yesterday Rancho Cucamonga's Women's Club (whose key objectives are charity, education, and literacy) gave out awards and scholarships to 18 local middle and high school students for academic achievement and community involvement. What I like best, aside from of course being proud of the youth in my city, is that it also highlights all of the wonderful community organizations that we have here and that work to make it a wonderful place to live.

Yesterday, I was walking around Rancho Cucamonga and look what I got to experience!  I couldn't believe it either!  Not sure what kind of flowers they are, but aren't they perfectly sculpted and colored and oh, doesn't it feel good to just look at them? Feels like someplace else doesn't it?   And to think we are so lucky to have this in our very own back or front yard in Rancho Cucamonga!!! Need a good restaurant, click here!   Took this picture on historic Route 66, or Foothill Blvd in Rancho Cucamonga.  Here is another shot with the reveal.

Farming: Developing an area or region to market to, touching or turning the field to grow your business for the future. Traditionally, Title Companies have been a resource in the data for direct mail, and to a degree they still are, but the rules have chanegd. We still can provide data, however the amount of data we can provide has been altered. Neighborhood, or Geographic Farming has been redifined by the USPS. In a time when many of us are trying to maximize every dollar we spend and stay in tune with our clientel, the  has lauched a new tool:  EVERY DOOR DIRECT MAIL Have you heard about it? It is where you can identify a neighborhood or more at a time and the post office will deliver the postcards or mailers for as low as 14.5 cents per piece. In case you do not know, a postcard stam...

One man or woman practicing discipline, leadership, gratitude, commitment, etc. is far better than 100 teaching it. Do first. Then teach. So it is said that actions speak louder than words. The question is do we live by this personally and within our teams?  Here is the true question, Do we ourselves represent our values, and do the individuals we have as a part of our team accurately reflect them as well?  Today post I apologize is heavy on cliches, however, they are there for a reason. We are told that we become like the 5 people we hang around the most, or associate with.  How do you select your team? Have you done an evaluation of your team lately? Do they bring you up or down? Vendors we work with should be treated in the same category, as they are an extension of us?  Do you agree...
