One of the many advantages of living on the Peninsula, from San Francisco to the Silicon Valley, is proximity to other beautiful areas, one of which is the Monterey Peninsula. Pacific Grove, California, is the not-quite-so-well known town there, with less name recognition than Carmel or Monterey. It is, however, our favorite destination. Located at the tip of the Peninsula, the natural beauty is stunning, and walking and biking paths let one enjoy it all, from the somewhat sheltered bay side, around the tip at Lover's Point, along the ocean coast to Asilomar State Beach. Sea otters frolic; sea lions and seals sun themselves on rocks; waves send spray high into the air. Tiny houses rub shoulders with grand Victorian homes; Monterey cypress and huge eucalyptus trees provide resting spots ...

Pacific Grove, CA's Butterfly House Bright colors, extravagant beauty and butterflies; butterflies of all shapes and sizes. Located at 309 9th street in Pacific Grove this magnificently colored house is hard to miss. It is a wonder to all ages young and old with the flow of its brightly colored butterflies from the widely known Monarchs down to the smaller Cracker butterflies. Ironically, Pacific Grove is known for being the “Butterfly Capital of California” so it is not that uncommon to spot many of these glamorous insects as one strolls the street.  The colors and patterns that make this Pacific Grove house extraordinary all come from the brilliant creativity of J Jackson. The owner, J Jackson, sculpted this master piece after he found out that his loving wife Sonia was diagnosed with...

Best Breakfast Pacific Grove, CA. Clients often ask me where to get the best breakfast in Pacific Grove, CA.  There are dozens of places that serve breakfast in Pacific Grove, but there are only a few that have passed the long term locals test and will always serve up a consistently perfect breakfast meal. In my opinion, First Awakenings serves the best breakfast in Pacific Grove and the best gourmet pancakes on the Monterey Peninsula.  Please try the banana germ pancakes, they are heavenly.   My daughter Lorin loves the eggs benedict at First Awakenings, but I always get the mushroom caps and eggs.  They have great iron skillet scrambles that can be ordered a variety of ways.  Breakfast at First Awakenings was at one point a ritual for my young family, where we would often see one o...

Pacific Grove Real Estate 2012 vs. 2011 Pacific Grove, CA is home to some of the best real estate on the Monterey Peninsula with beautiful views back at Monterey Bay all the way around to Santa Cruz.  Although this hidden gem has taken a pretty big hit in real estate prices over the past 5 years, the real estate market in Pacific Grove, CA is stabilizing.  With a limited number of sales per year due to the small number of home sales, it is hard to draw concrete conclusions from one year to the next, but there are clear trends revealing themselves over the past several years and they are all pointing to a stabilized market poised to start growing again. The number of homes sold in Pacific Grove hit bottom in 2008 when only 95 home sold!  Since then, the number of homes sold each ye...

A Pacific Grove Victorian located in the old Methodist Retreat area of Pacific Grove   Pacific Grove, CA is located at the tip of the Monterey Peninsula.  This scenic little seaside town is known for its high concentration of Victorian Homes, an annual visit of migrating Monarch Butterflies, beautiful rocky coastline and a small home town feel.  Check the calendar, there is always something going on in the great little town. Most people know that Pacific Grove started our as a Methodist seaside resort founded in 1875 and the retreat area is located between the current downtown area and the water’s edge.  There were no full time residents of Pacific Grove, but just summer visitors who came during the Chautauqua season and erected tents to stay in.  What most people don’t know is Pacific ...
