See what homes are for sale now in BerkeleySee what homes are for sale now in Oakland After the 1907 earthquake, Rockridge was one of the first neighborhoods settled in Oakland, with its proximity to San Francisco being one of the drawing cards...just as it is today.  It was just a couple of years after the  earthquake that this charming Victorian was built at 5261 Miles Avenue. It has all the details of the period: box ceiling, built ins, wainscoting and large moldings plus a basement.  It has all the accoutrements people were used to in the city.  Additionally, it has 2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, an updated kitchen that opens to a family room and a wonderful deck and backyard.  Today, it's even closer to the city: just three blocks to BART and all the restaurants and stores of Rockridge a...

You’re invited to the Great Estates Tour of the Claremont Pines/Upper Rockridge Neighborhood: Saturday, April 20! Mark your calendars.  On Saturday, April 20, 2013, you’ll have the opportunity to see first hand many of the distinguished homes of the Claremont Pines/Upper Rockridge neighborhood built after the Oakland fire in 1991.  The tour is one of the yearly tours sponsored by the Oakland Heritage Alliance of homes and neighborhoods of architectural significance. In this case, it will highlight some great examples of Tudor and Mediterranean Revival-style architecture built after the fire.  And two of Oakland’s most distinguished architects, William Schirmer and Geoffrey Bangs, will be featured.  Unlike almost any other neighborhood of new homes built after 1990, all homes are unique ...

Sales prices of single family homes in one of our favorite neighborhoods--Rockridge in Oakland, CA--have seen a series of rises and falls over the past three years. From this time in 2008, median sold prices in this popular area saw a fairly percipitous fall from the mid-$900's to the mid-$700's, and back up to the mid-$900's nine months later. From a median of $780K at the beginning of 2010, they zoomed up by almost $200K  to $975K, dropped back to around $800K, soared again last quarter to the $900K range, only to drop back again this quarter to a median of $818K. What an exhausting ride! Over the course of three years median sold prices are now down 16%, but we won't be surprised to see them take another swing upwards! While median sold prices ended down 6% as compared to this time l...

A survey by American Lives, a consumer research firm in California, conducted a study for the trade magazine Builder to answer that question. Here are their conclusions: · They are young. Most are under 45. Half said they had annual household incomes of $75,000 or less. Two-thirds are married. · They are frugal. They consistently told surveyors they were eager to live a simple lifestyle. · They are concerned about their financial future. About 70 percent said the economy is “not so good” with 27 percent saying it ...
