La Jolla, CA Real Estate News

By Greg Noonan
(Prudential California Realty)
by Marilyn Noonan "I'll give you $200 to ...!" A tenant was late vacating the La Jolla Shores home Greg's clients had just purchased, so Greg went over to find out what was holding him up. After all, the new homeowners were now paying $200 a day on the mortgage... Greg is known to be TENACIOUS. Finding the tenant distracted, far behind schedule, tinkering around with his antiques, and without discernable intention to vacate, Greg followed the guy around the house, explaining that he needed to move immediately or pay the new owner $200 for each day he was late. As the man hemmed and hawed, filling boxes and the re-categorizing and starting over, Greg--going to great lengths to represent his clients-- diligently kept up his demand that the man pay his client $200 a day for each day he wa...

Hello and Welcome to La Jolla California Homes For Sale. La Jolla is a wealthy [1] seaside resort community, occupying seven miles of curving coastline along the Pacific Ocean in Southern California. Although officially a part of San Diego, California, La Jolla retains its own small-town atmosphere and its own civic pride. Home to roughly 42,808[2] residents, La Jolla is defined on three sides by its rugged coastline of ocean bluffs and beaches, backed by steep canyons and hillsides culminating at Mount Soledad. Located 12 miles north of San Diego, and 40 miles south of Orange County California, La Jolla is probably best known for its beautiful weather year round with an average daily temperature of 70.5 °F making this area a tourist hotspot. In addition, La Jolla is well known for its...

Economists and housing market analysts say that with home prices comparable to 2002 and continuing to fall, we could be in for a lengthy period of fairly affordable housing. Typical prices of homes are currently below historical averages in comparison with incomes making them affordable to more buyers than any time since 2000. And if unemployment continues to rise, prices should drop even further. The median sales price for homes in the South California area in January was 250k, a 40 percent drop from January a year ago, according to a report released Thursday by MDA DataQuick. The falling prices are largely attributable to an increase in foreclosed homes, which represented about sixty percent of January’s sales. Experts say that prices should continue the current trend, falling another...

La Jolla, often referred to as "the jewel," is a beautiful community along the coast just north of San Diego. Many homes are clustered along the coastline, or on the hills (which remind many of some of the Mediterranean towns in France and Italy overlooking the sea) with spectacular ocean and coastal views.  Because of its location along the Pacific, the views and the types of homes built there, La Jolla remains one of San Diego's most expensive, and exclusive, communities with a median home price in the last 6 months of $1.5 million (the average price was a little over $2 million). La Jolla Village is an upscale town of high-end boutiques, galleries, day spas, jewelry stores, furniture and home furnishings, several hotels, and dining with wonderful views of La Jolla Cove and the ocean ...

A GREAT ARTICLE FROM DQNEWS.COM.  Southland home sales ease but still beat '07; median falls below $300K December 16, 2008 La Jolla, CA---Southern California home sales outpaced last year for the fifth consecutive month in November, when 55 percent of buyers in the resale market chose repossessed homes. The abundance of discounted foreclosures helped push the median sale price down a record 35 percent from a year ago, a real estate information service reported. A total of 16,720 new and resale houses and condos closed escrow in the six-county Southland last month. That was down 22.3 percent from 21,532 in October but up 26.9 percent from 13,173 in November 2007, according to San Diego-based MDA DataQuick. On the surface, last month's sales look much weaker than in the prior two months: ...

A Brooks Brothers store in La Jolla?  I always thought you would have to go to New York or Rodeo Drive to shop in a Brooks Brothers!  When Saks Fifth Avenue closed a couple of years ago on Wall Street in the village of La Jolla, La Jolla residents were dismayed that after many years in the Village, we would lose our only high end large clothing store.  Tomorrow, November 20th, that is all about to change, when Brooks Brothers has its Grand Opening.  The 14,000 square foot store is taking over the Saks Fifth Avenue building and is expected to sell both men's and women's Brooks Brothers' collections.  The Grand Opening is open to the public from 6 pm to 8 pm and anyone attending will be able to save 15% on their purchases.  In addition, in the spirit of the season... 10% of the evening's ...

Imagine missing one leg, or both. Or an arm, or both. How about both arms and legs? What if you were confined to a wheelchair, partially paralyzed? Can you imagine what life might be like? There are lots of folks who DO know what it's like. And they don't let it stop them from enjoying life and being active. Some are incredible athletes. I saw some of them today in La Jolla. La Jolla was the site of the Tour de Cove and the San Diego Triathlon Challenge to benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF).  And many of the folks I saw participating in the events or just hanging out have been the recipients of prosthetic arms and legs and wheelchairs to enable them to live more active lives and participate in fitness and athletic competition. I saw a 10-year kid with both legs amputated a...

This Sunday in La Jolla California is a very special day. It's the Tour de Cove. The Tour de Cove is a significant fund raising event for the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). Monies raised benefits CAH who helps folks with physical challenge pursue active ifestyle through physical fitness and atheltics. The funds are used to purchase prosthetics (which can cost $15,000), wheelchairs and handcycles (about $2000) for these athletes, many of whom compete locally, nationally and internationally in a host of events. [graphic is a link to the website] The Tour de Cove is held every year at La Jolla Cove, although last year's event had to be canceled becuase of teh fires and concerns about the athletes who were participating in the spin-a-thon as well as the triatholon. There is a 4 and 1...
