California median home price posts first year-to-year increase in 16 months; low inventory demonstrates limited need for bulk REO sales, C.A.R. says LOS ANGELES (April 16) – California home sales declined in March from February’s pace, while the median home price snapped a 16-month annual price decline and posted its first year-over-year gain, the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (C.A.R.). “While home sales were down statewide, the housing market continued to perform at a solid pace by historical standards. In fact, sales jumped significantly in most regions of the state, with many areas experiencing double-digit gains,” said C.A.R. President LeFrancis Arnold. “Tight inventory and robust home sales, particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area, fueled the substantial increase in the Ma...

The Demographics of the Jobs Recovery: Employment Gains by Race, Ethnicity, Gender and Nativity   Two years after the U.S. labor market hit bottom in 2009, the economic recovery has yielded slow but steady gains in overall employment. However, the pace of the jobs recovery varies across demographic groups. Hispanics and Asians are gaining jobs at a faster rate than blacks and whites, foreign-born workers are outpacing native-born workers, and men are faring better than women in the recovery, according to new Pew Research Center analysis of government data.   For the most part, the disparate trends in the jobs recovery from 2009 to 2011 reflect the rapidly changing demographics of the American workforce. Groups whose working-age populations are growing the most have seen the biggest empl...

New-home sales for single-family homes rose 1.3 percent in October, marking the best pace for new-home sales activity since this May, the U.S. Commerce Department reports.   Following the sector's worst year for new-home activity on record last year, several recent reports are suggesting a pick-up in new construction.   "Builders have been seeing some marginal improvement in sales activity over the past few months, particularly in select markets where consumer confidence is higher due to improved economic conditions," Bob Nielsen, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders, said in a statement. "While this trend is encouraging, overall sales activity is still well below normal due to the effects of overly tight credit conditions for builders and buyers, the continued flow of ...

In today's economy everyone is trying to save money by clipping coupons, rushing to the mall in the middle of the night on Black Friday, and by selling their home by themselves without using a real estate agent. Sadly, there are many home sellers who truly underestimate the commitment required to sell a home on their own. Every aspect of selling a home takes a lot of time from marketing to figuring out the correct sale price with the best terms. Given time, eventually the home owner may sell his property, but at a heavy cost of lost time due to incorrect pricing and ineffective marketing all of which may cause them to regret trying to sell their home on their own. Don't be penny wise and dollar foolish. More times than not homeowners who decide to market and sell their home without usin...

Make the most of today...To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby.To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper. To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who just missed a train. To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask someone who just avoided an accident. To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal at the Olympics.Treasure every moment that you have! And remember time waits for no one.Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why its called the present.

Selling CostsThe amount you gain on the sale of your home is taxable, if over a certain amount. Though some of the gain is excluded from taxes, you want to reduce the gain amount to as little as possible to avoid a hefty tax bill. Many selling costs allow you deduct from the gain of the sale of your home. These selling fees include closing costs, real estate agent commission, advertising, title insurance and inspection costs.  Moving CostsWhen you must sell your home due to work, you may meet criteria allowing deduction of moving costs. If the job is more than 50 miles from your current house and is a full-time position, you can deduct certain moving costs. These costs include transportation costs, moving company fees, lodging expenses and storage of items. If your employer has a reloca...

Depending on the real estate market in your area, selling a house can prove challenging. Many factors go into the ability to sell a home, especially when other houses in your neighborhood are sitting for months without selling. However, effective methods exist to help you quickly sell your house. Knowing what buyers look for, how to price your house and how to make your house distinct from others can help you during the selling process. Create Curb AppealCreating curb appeal is an effective method to sell a house because it catches buyers' attention immediately and makes a good first impression. Common ways to create curb appeal include planting flowers in the front lawn, replacing damaged or fading trim, and polishing metal doorknobs and handles to make them shine. Investing money in h...
