September '09 average sales price ($917,970) for a home in Encinitas, including Leucadia and Olivenhain dipped 7.3% from September of '08, while the median sales price dipped nearly 20%. How do you calculate Sales Price VS Average Sales Price? I went off to Home Depot to pick up a few things as we getting prepared for a wedding with various events adn guests at our house next week. What a shock!! I am SOOO not ready for this. How about you? And then there's this. Looks like a Modernist painting, I guess. But while picking up some garden mulch it started raining. RAIN. In So Cal in early Fall? SOOO out of character. And then it rained HARD for a couple of minutes about 30 minutes later. Fortunately I at least had my phone camera, despite the inferior quality. A real  shock for the eyes on Friday in Carlsbad. ********************************                  Subscribe in a reader If I can provide more information about Carlsbad real estate and surrounding areas, or the housing market in general, or otherwise assist you in your ...

The Boathouses in Encinitas are located at 732 3rd Street and are perhaps the most photographed landmark in town.  My husband and I used to live next door to these homes and would enjoy sitting on the steps and watching cars come to a halt in front of these landmarks and watching the tourists stare in amazement.  Some wonder.....are they boats that someone has retired and made into homes?  Well, the answer is "no".  They were built as homes and have never seen water except for the rain. Miles Minor Kellogg was a resident of Encinitas back in the 1920's and he would always be there when a building was being torn down or unused materials were discarded and he would construct a building using the scraps that he would find.  When Miles found out the Bathhouse at Moonlight Beach was being d...

Once again the Carlsbad art gallery Cannon Art Gallery is featuring a wonderful show, this time of contemporary drawings in Southern California. The show opened August 20 and will run until November 1 at the gallery located adjacent to the Carlsbad Library at 18775 Dove Lane in South Carlsbad.  "Moving Points" features 8 area artists with diverse drawing styles and themes in both "representational and abstract works" (per Karen McGuire, Gallery Director and Curator) - Adam Belt, Joseph Biel, Tom Morgan, Enjeong Noh, Iana Quesnell, William Riley, Ernest Silva and Pat Warner.  As always, the gallery offers a glimpse into the world of talented artists in a beautifully organized show, curated by the Cannon Art Gallery's Director, Karen McGuire. Along with plenty for the kiddies to do!I have to mention that Karl Strauss is present with his Oktoberfest brew and John Haedrich of Tip Top meatsmake sure that authentic German food is available for all! Of course an Oktoberfest festival is not complete with out Dancers and a Bavarian Band. It is a fun family day for all!Now beckons the question... what is Oktoberfest, well other then an excuse to go h...

Tip Top Meats in Carlsbad will be there and is a major spo...

If you are seeking a great Encinitas sushi restaurant, Blue Fin Sushi in Encinitas California fits the bill in my book.  Blue Fin Sushi Restaurant is on the east side of El Camino Real in the shopping corridor just north of Encinitas Boulevard. The signage is, well, blue, so you can't miss it, despite being in a strip mall along with other restaurants and a variety of stores. Blue Fin Sushi was recommended to me some time ago and having been there several times now it's easy to see why this place is so popular. While you can walk in during the week, I highly recommend reservations for the weekend as this place, which is modest in size, gets jammed, whether you sit at a table or at the sushi bar (which holds, perhaps, 12 people).    The dinner menu is diverse, both with special sushi rol...

The Whole Foods Market at Pacific Station has been in process for some time, and it has been fun to watch the progress from a hole in the ground in Encinitas to a Whole Foods Market. We still have a ways to go but it will be worth it. Here are a few shots taken over a fairly long period, the most recent this afternoon. September 2008 I did my first post way back in December 2007 - Whole Foods Market is Coming to Town - Encinitas, That Is June 2009   The other cool thing about this project is that the developer donated all the sand they dug up and had it carted over to Carlsbad for rebuilding Ponto Beach, a sand replenishment project in South Carlsbad back in the early part of this year. As of September 2009 ******************************** Subscribe in a reader If I can provide more inf...
