Great news going into the weekend.  We have seen a nice drop in rates over the last week, about 0.50% across the board.  This drop equates to an increase in buying power and an increase in buying options.  Increased buying power, four examples with a 30 year fixed: •·         A payment of $1,565 at 5.25% equated to a loan amount of $283,400.  Same payment but at 4.75% equates to a loan amount of $300,000.  Loan amount increase of $16,600. •·         A payment of $2,175 at 5.25% equated to a loan amount of $393,875.  Same payment but at 4.75% equates to a loan amount of $417,000.  Loan amount increase of $23,125. •·         A payment of $3,440 at 5.375% equated to a loan amount of $614,300.  Same payment but at 4.875% equates to a loan amount of $650,000.  Loan amount increase of $35,700...

My husband and I were walking on the beach in Encinitas, in North San Diego County, when we happened upon these children playing in the sand. My thoughts were:  "How darling is that those children are so cute they look like they are out of a movie".  Just as I was about to turn to my husband and express my thoughts...he said to me, "Those kids are destroying the sand that was brought in to protect the lifeguard station".  This just goes to show you how differently we think! You decide if this is damaging to the beach or not!        Public comments have been disabled to prevent spam but I would love to hear from you by e-mail or telephone!  Contact me for more information about life and living in the Temecula, Temecula Wine County, De Luz or Murrieta areas, or anywhere in Southwest River...

How to Put Out a Fire with a Fire Extinguisher  The Encinitas Fire Department put on a demonstration yesterday on how to put out a fire using a fire extinguisher. [photo courtesy of photo8.com on Flickr] This demonstration was part of the class on Emergency Preparedness being offered by the Natural Living Source. The demo was held in the parking lot outside the Blue Star Body Lounge who hosted the site for the remainder of the Emergency Preparedness class.  Critical to putting out a fire with a fire extinguisher, of course, is knowing HOW to use it, and the videos will explain the procedure and show you how it's done.    The important way to remember the procedure is PASS:  P - Pull the ring to release the handle on the extinguisher A - Aim the hose S - Squeeze the handle to release the...

A mixed-use property that has been taking shape over the last year or so in downtown Encinitas is going to be finished this summer. It is just a hop, skip, and a jump from Swami's Beach.   The $40 million dollar project, Pacific Station, will include a Whole Foods Market, 47 two-story townhouses, 40,000 square feet of retail space, 9000 square feet of office space-all built over two floors of underground parking.   John DeWald of Cardiff-based John DeWald & Associates is a development partner of this $40 million dollar project. Opponents of the project may complain of the increased traffic and the change in environmental flavor on South Coast Highway that may come with this new development. However, other local residents are thrilled to finally have a grocery store in this part of Encin...

My husband has ordered his iPad. He is crazy to get this thing in the mail. It should be here any day now, and it is all that he talks about. I, on the other hand, am not particularly interested. I do not think that they iPad will integrate well into my personal real estate-related routine. Several of the real estate applications that we use everyday (the MLS, the ZIPforms, etc) do not function well on a Mac, so how are they going to work on an iPad? I may be wrong though. I was wrong before. I had a Smartphone, when he got his iPhone. I said that I wasn't interested in the iPhone because it probably wouldn't work well with Outlook-which is where I store the bulk of my information. Boy was I wrong. When I got the iPhone a year ago, boy did I eat my words. Will I eat my words with the iP...

A friend of mine from college who lives in Northern California found me on facebook after we had lost touch for quite some time. And, guess what? He wants to buy a small place in Encinitas because he comes down here for business once a month! Here's to being on facebook! It really does create success in social networking. But I am not writing about facebook. I am writing about home buying in Encinitas. My friend said that he wanted a condo with "a view". "What kind of view?" I responded. "An ocean view? A golf course view? A view of your neighbor's backyard?" You see all of these are possible views in Encinitas. Being in North San Diego County, many of our properties have wonderful ocean views. However, some of those ocean view properties can be pretty pricey. We began to discuss his op...

The Leucadia 101 Streetscape is ChangingIt's true...literally. The Leucadia 101 streetscape, as they call it, IS changing. So what DOES this mean? Leucadia is a funky, eclectic beach town (the northern-most community in Encinitas, just south of Carlsbad) with a strong surfing history and feel.Terrific beaches, a lack of glitzy retailers and boutiques, and an amazing array of housing from apartments to trailer parks to multimillion dollar beachfront homes combine to create an environment reminiscent of years ago but tiptoeing into the future. Folks like it that way.Indeed, bumper stickers that shout "Keep Leucadia Funky" are commonplace. READ MORE: Leucadia - Surfers' Beach Community Leucadia is also home to some of my favorite haunts - Le Papagayo for terrific food and music, and the Bui...

Jamroc 101 Caribbean Grill Offers Terrific Jamaican Cuisine in the Encinitas Restaurant Community   Looking for something different in the Encinitas restaurants? Jamroc 101 Caribbean Grill offers terrific Jamaican cuisine in Encinitas around the corner from Moonlight Beach.  I drive by Jamroc frequently. I hear great things about it all the time. But for one reason or another I never dined there...until last night.  It was a real treat. And I wish I had done myself a favor of visiting before this.  The minute you walk in the door you KNOW this is a Jamaican eatery - the smells, the menu, the décor, the casual-come-as-you-are-and-hang-out kind of place at the beach on the Coast Road just a few blocks from the beach. Palm trees outside and reggae music in the background add to the island ...

Encinitas Street Fair is Here Again on April 24 and 25, 2010   It's hard to be believe that it's time again for the famous Encinitas Street Fair, being held this coming weekend in downtown Encinitas. This popular outdoor fair, the 27th annual, is sponsored by the Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Association (DEMA).  Read about last year's Encinitas Street Fair  100,000 folks are anticipated to stop by this year's Encinitas Street Fair to look, shop and dine, with over 450 vendors (I've been...it's a winner), lots of music (2 of my fave groups - Luna Llena [Cuban Salsa]), and Allison Adams Tucker [jazz] will be there), and the classic beer garden along historic Route 101 between D and J Streets.   Here's the entertainment schedule.    Retailers along the Coast Road will be participating as ...

Over 100,000 shoppers are expected to visit, shop and dine at the two day Encinitas Street Fair. The 27th Annual Encinitas Street Fair is a great opportunity to visit Encinitas and discover a National award winning, traditional So-Cal beach town, on historic Coast Hwy 101.
