A Del Mar estate with views of the Pacific Ocean and the Del Mar Race Track has been put on the market for $76 million, the highest listing price for a home in county history.  Property Nestled Between Race Track, Ocean Listed for $76 Million "Where the turf meets the surf down at old Del Mar."The late Bing Crosby should have known that a unique property nestled between his beloved Del Mar Race Track and the Pacific Ocean is really where the turf meets the surf in old Del Mar. In 1937, the same year Bing greeted the first guests to the races, this exclusive estate was under construction in the track's shadows.Read more »                                                                                                                       516 Fifth Avenue   San Diego, CA 921011-800-221-2...

This listing breaks all prior San Diego listing records.Priced at $76 Million, this circa 1937 oceanfront Del Mar trophy estate sits on nearly 5.5 singular acres. The two story home has nine bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms and ocean frontage of 396 feet. It is an oceanfront estate that will appeal to top tier and global real estate collectors–and is a relative bargain compared to other hurricane-prone waterfront estates. I caught first official details of the story from Michelle Mowad, crack reporter and writer for The San Diego Business Journal. She interviewed agents involved in the offering and reveals that the property is owned by San Diego venture capitalist William “Bill” Stensrud, one of San Diego’s wealthiest residents. He is a partner with Enterprise Partner’s Venture Cap...

Hearing all the woos about falling prices? The owners of this magnificent piece of waterfront certainly didn't get that message. In Del Mar,the old Trippett Mansion goes on the market at 3 times what it was purchased for 7 years ago. Now you must understand for that small amount of change, you aren't getting a place you can live in. Well, not yet anyways. The inside of the property was gutted and if you have ever tried to get past the Del Mar land use regulations, it is not going to be an easy task to re-establish the grandeur of what once was. With over 5 acres right on the ocean, the lucky buyer will have infinite views of the water with the only obstruction being the weather patterns that come in off the ocean. No worry, on a clear day, you can see forever and that is what the owners ...

Many are surprised to hear that Del Mar, California has a population under 5,000. It is home to some of the most expensive real estate in the world, offers a quaint tree-lined village, a gorgeous California beach, the Del Mar Race Track and Fairgrounds, and an active train station that once brought the Hollywood crowd down for the Del Mar race season and year round beach gatherings. Del Mar has a number of fine restaurants, lodging possibilities and is easy to reach by car or train. Many who visit return year after year to enjoy Del Mar’s beach, its village, the Del Mar Fair and of course, Del Mar’s thoroughbred racing. The lure of Del Mar is a haunting one, and many vacationers end up looking for a second or primary home within its spectacular boundaries. These Del Mar real estate see...

I got to decide where I wanted to go for Mother's Day Brunch this year. Last year, we all trooped over to the La Costa Resort's Ballroom for their annual Mother's Day Brunch-to-beat-all-brunches. The problem with those enormous brunches is I never know where to start--or when to finish. This year, I opted for reasonable servings of fine food, no champagne, a killer Bloody Mary and Pacific beach views that remind me why we chose to live in San Diego. Jake's Del Mar is an old favorite, and we have enoyed their Sunday beach brunches for years. The atmosphere is casual and the service friendly.  Entrees range from about $11.00 to $18.00 and include orange juice and plates of fresh-baked pastries. Champagne is available at an extra cost. Sitting on the sand, this restaurant is also a great ch...

There is an amazing ocean-front home in Del Mar, consisting of 5 outbuildings (totaling 10,700 SF) which include a main home, 2 guest houses, pool, tennis court, health spa, theater, and a greenhouse, that has been on the market since July 2005 that is in escrow and due to close soon, if rumor, and the Union Tribune, are accurate. The price?Well it was listed at $50 million, which will about double the previous record for the highest price sale (at least publicly known). San Diego real estate is not known for being inexpensive, but this number makes our expensive stuff seem a bargain. No, it's not quite the new Bel-Air listing of $125,000,000 announced recently, nor Donald Trump's palacio in Palm Beach (also at $125 million I think), nor the $155 million estate being built in Montana. Th...

Here are the summary statistics from the MLS for Del Mar for November and December 2006.Like other North County San Diego communities, Del Mar's housing inventory dropped during the month of December, down 24% from November (the holiday season was a likely contributor). The town, due to its small size, gorgoeus ocean views from many properties, and a charming downtown area, has tended to be one of the most expensive coastal towns for some time. Prices have escalated substantially and rival La Jolla (to the south) - up 15% in the last 2 years (a period of much correction) and a whopping 102% in the last 5 years. If you have visited the area you probably understand why - the town is hilly and offers many homeowners a change for dramatic ocean views and sunsets...at a hefty price. While som...

Realtors and public alike are fascinated by record-setting news, and most of us are curious to know about the most expensive home sold in the last year.In San Diego County, the winner of record would be a stunning 3–bedroom, 3.5–bath Del Mar oceanfront beauty sold by Jennifer Moores to Marsha Naify for $18 million. The ultra-luxury real estate market in San Diego is a healthy one, with at least 37 homes selling above $5 million last year. And 2007 is poised to be even better. That  Del Mar sale, though, pales compared to a report filed by luxury home writer Bernice Ross. She tosses aside California, Hawaii, Florida and New York as contenders. The winner? New Jersey!  It appears the most expensive closed  single residential sale for 2006 was a $58 million, 63–acre estate located just five ...
