Welcome to Claremont, let's eat! If you are in the area of the old town Claremont Village, check out the Viva Madrid Restaurant.  It is a a great Spanish, you know SPAIN, restaurant that features a huge variety of Tapas (appetizers to us Westerners) which makes up the foundation of a great Spanish meal, they also serve heavenly traditional Spanish dishes. The atmosphere is all Spain with bull fighting posters and the feel of being in a restaurant in old Spain. Oh and don't miss the sangria!  Located at 225 Yale Avenue between 2nd and Bonita in Claremont.  It can be a little hard to find as it is in a shopping hallway mid block, look for the signs.Empire Realty - Premium Full Service at a Discount Visit us on the web http://www.empireteam.com

A new video recently put together by Claremont COURIER publisher Peter Weinberger sets out to explain some of the reasons why Claremont was voted the 5th best city to live in by Money Magazine - from a local perspective.  One aspect touched on in the video explains how Claremont has seemed to be able to hold on to it's small town charm, while at the same time growing and developing new communities and businesses. While there are many more reasons life in Claremont is sweet, this video is essentially unrehearsed and down to earth.  I, for one, hope that Mr. Weinberger takes to the streets more often in a possible bid for the number one slot in next year's competition!Click HERE to view the video!  John

Just in case anyone was considering an evening stroll through the tunnel on South College you might want to change your plans. The city of Claremont website just posted that the tunnel will be closed in the evening to "address safety concerns."  Somehow I am thinking that this is a good idea.  At any rate, see the city website for specific times if this poses a challenge to your pedestrian commute.May I suggest as an alternative the Claremont Colleges?  Perhaps The Village?  Both are excellent places to go for an evening stroll!

DQNews reports that the median price of Claremont homes (single family residences) are up just over 10% from June 2006.  Condos are up slightly as well, though this number is less reliable due to the number of sales month to month.  This is great news since many surrounding communities are either flat or losing ground.  One more reason why living in Claremont California is tops!

or at least be able to pronounce John Contabile's name like an Italian!OK, so since 99% of the population has a difficult time pronouncing my name, I thought it would make a great first blog post.  Here goes...In Italian, all the vowels are pronounced, so Contabile (which means "accountant" or some similar variation) is pronounced:cone  taah  BEE  lay (with the stress on the third syllable)There you go!Ciao!John

Hi All,If you are in the neighborhood, or if you could be, check out Inka Trails a wonderful Peruvian restaurant located at 1077 Foothill Boulevard in Claremont, on the corner of Foothill and Towne Avenues.  Foothill Boulevard originally was Historic Route 66 and still carries the signage, character and some of the buildings that date back to it's heyday.Inka Trails is a restaurant like few I have ever gone too.  The food is unique, traditional Peruvian cuisine.  Peruvian food shows its roots, having influences from Japan, China and South America all happily comingled.  For a full review of this delightful dining experience, pop over to Route66Living.Com where you can always find the best parts of Claremont, California on display.Take care and have a wonderful day,Tisza"Because it's not...

Hi All,For me a house and a home are two very different things.  And nowhere is that more readily apparent than here in Claremont.  A stroll down our tree-lined streets will give you a visual definition of both words.  A house is just the bricks and mortar, lathe and plaster, stucco or siding and wood or stone, but without the heart, soul and life that it needs to magically transform, before your very eyes, into a home.  A home on the other hand, is a very different thing.  It has a foundation built not just of rock or cement, but of trials, tribulations, adulation, joy, excitement and laughter.  It has walls supported by togetherness, friendship, warmth and comfort, strength and shared sorrow, pleasure and pain.  Scarred by pencil lines that mark a height, nails that hold up frames fil...
