Terramar (Carlsbad, CA)

Yesterday was a picture-perfect day at the beach.  So we decided to take a picnic lunch and sit on the bluff at a favorite spot to enjoy the views and just relax. I can't complain about 70 degrees at the beach in February, and this week is supposed to be sunny and warm (up to 75 or so) every day. A far cry from what we used to experience in February in New England.  It seemed like everyone was out yesterday - not a surprise - and parking was a challenge. We were hoping to see some whales that tend to migrate at this time of year but none appeared...or I at least missed them.  Aaahhh, the Carlsbad beach life!

Artwork at Terramar Beach in Carlsbad  I took a drive down the Coast Road yesterday after  an errand in Carlsbad Village. It was a rather June Gloomy day with a pretty heavy marine layer, yet it was sunny at my house just a few miles away. I decided to take a short walk at Terramar Beach - my favorite - and discovered this rather whimsical sculpture perched on the bluff above the ocean. The sculpture is behind a fence and it was a challenge snapping a decent photo, but you get the idea. The gray day did not help. It's fun to stumble on artwork in public places, especially when unexpected.

Photography Contest - Real Life Places Dick Greenberg has inspired us to share our best photos for his November 2016 Photography Contest. This is my entry for the Real Life category in the travel/places subcategory.  Terramar Beach is one of the more beautiful beaches in Carlsbad where I live. Indeed it ranks right up for the many beaches I've been to in Southern California. In addition to the beauty of this beach with the spectacular cliffs, it holds a special meaning for my wife and I as it's where our younger daughter got married about 3 years ago. It was a small wedding, with about 35 guests who braved their way down the concrete stairs and across sand to just the right place for the wedding. And it had to be planned so high tide was not occurring which would covered much of this go...

Terramar Beach in Carlsbad in Late Fall The beaches in Carlsbad are beautiful at any time of the year, IMO.  Terramar Beach in central Carlsbad just south of the power plant is a particularly beautiful, and somewhat remote beach. It's particularly nice at this time of year, even though it can get pretty chilly, since there often is no one there.  The bluffs are the most dramatic along our Carlsbad coast and great for photos. And some of the most expensive Carlsbad real estate sits atop the bluff to the north.  I was there the other day to see what the beach looked like given what was happening further north with the erosion at Carlsbad State Beach. The beach level has definitely dropped since I was there last and they've added river rocks to try to minimize the erosion.   My wife and I ...

A Winter Walk on Terramar Beach in Carlsbad   Terramar Beach in Carlsbad, less than 2 miles south of Carlsbad Village is my favorite beach, and a beautiful place for a walk.   My daughter, who was visiting for the holidays, and I took a long walk yesterday. The weather was spectacular, as it has been all week, around 70 degrees at 10 in the morning.     Terramar Beach has some amazing cliffs and rock formations, is wide and very flat, and runs below the bluff with some of the most expensive waterfront real estate in Carlsbad, and North County (currently there are several oceanfront homes for sale, ranging from $6.9M to $29M).     Terramar Beach also holds fond memories of my daughter’s wedding a couple of years ago.   The pelicans, surfers, paddle boarders, and dolphins were out in abun...

Single Story Beach House in Carlsbad Single story Terramar beach house for sale in Carlsbad. Live near a great beach with surfing to die for. Rarely are homes for sale in this desirable neighborhood close to I5, Carlsbad Village, Carlsbad Outlet shops, Bistro West, PF Changs, Kings Seafood and other restaurants. Cannon Lake in your backyard means lounging around the house is peaceful and private. The interior has been updated while still maintaining that beach vibe. And best of all you have a permitted second dwelling for rental or extended stay guests. The laundry area can easily be shared by both units too. It's hard to find a single story beach house in Carlsbad, let alone, at this price. Terramar is one of those places that combines the best of everything. Solid architecture include...

Father of the Bride – Revisited   Grilled sea bass in banana leaves, a classic Jamaican rice dish, a bevy of appetizers (shrimp, oysters, cheeses), rum punch and a host of other goodies are coming our way this Saturday evening following our younger daughter’s wedding on the beach in Carlsbad.   We had a beach wedding just 2 ½ years ago in Cardiff when my older daughter got married – you have to be sure of high tide depending on the beach – so we have some experience with this sort of this, including the steps.   And the weather this weekend is supposed to be summer-like, around 80.   The last few weeks have been crazy, with work (a number of relocation clients and a pending closing), travel, SoCal CRS stuff, the Cardiovascular Disease Foundation 5K Run/Walk for Life preparations and eve...
