Even A Contractor Can Use a Cloth Iron At Work.   Laminate counter repair in apartments can be a little tricky sometimes, but if you can get the right material and tools, you may be able to save a bunch of money. The cost to replace a counter can be expensive so a repair may be the best option. Of course that assumes the rest of the counter is worth saving. I picked up a $10 travel iron that is perfect for removing the laminate from a counter top. It heated up quickly and is small enough to fit into tight areas. Today I had a counter that had a chip in the end cap that was in a high traffic, very visible area. The iron made removing the end cap simple and made the installation of the new cap a breeze.

Looking to pour some concrete in Cameron Park before the rain.   Today we were able to get a small area of landscaping clear out to make room for a walkway in Cameron Park, CA. Several plants were cut back and one removed to clear a path for a new concrete path from an apartment front door to the common walkway.  When clearing the area for the new concrete, it is important that care is taken in looking for buried irrigation, electrical and drain lines. I is always a good idea to contact USA (Underground Service Alaert) to come out before digging to check for buried services just to be safe. You don't want to find out that something is underground too late. We were fortunate to discover the irrigation pipes without hitting and breaking the system. The two sprinkler heads we found will ...

Using Drainage Rock To Move Water Away From Apartment Building In Cameron Park.   There are a number of apartment communities in the Sacramento area that are in need of keeping water away from the bottom of the building. This water can cause dry rot and water damage that can be avoided with drainage rock. The terrain around the building may prevent slopping the soil away from the structure. Communities with building at different elevations may be forced to use an alternate method. Drainage rock can be used to divert the water away safely. The secret is to dig a deep trench near the slab to collect the ground and surface water in the trench, a drainage pipe can help with the flow of water. The grade of the trench and the pipe is important; water filling up in the trench will not help t...

Is your deck adding value to your home? It is important to know what the buyer thinks of your deck – not you! What is their perception of the deck; does it add value or drag down the price? Is it aesthetically pleasing or an eye sore? You need to get an objective opinion on this. You may love the deck, but it may be costing you money by keeping it. How do you find out the effect of the wood deck on the sales price of your home? Ask your agent! Who better to give advice than someone with experience in judge the homes in your area? Your local agent has seen hundreds of homes and probably a few that were affected by the wood deck attached to it. After getting an honest opinion, you will be armed with some things that you can work on. It might be a good idea to get some pricing to remove ...

There Is No Substitute For Human Blood   The need for blood can only be satisfied by the donations of others. Science has not come up with a way of making a solution that can be used in its place. There is a constant demand for blood donations year round, with a peak demand in both the winter and summer. Whole blood has a shelf life of 42 days, so blood cannot be collected in advance for these slow donation months. In Placerville and Cameron Park, the Delta Blood Bank is always in need of donors willing to give blood. It is estimated that only 5% of eligible donors donate blood, while the number of transfusions increase 9% every year. Every 2 seconds, someone in the US needs blood; and there is a shortage in supply.   In Placerville, the Delta Blood Bank is located at: Placerville Cen...

Cameron Park Apartment Rental Market Trends   I was curious about the local Apartment rental trends in the Cameron Park, CA area. It is a small community, but the data that is collected by Apartment Ratings seem to be helpful. It does not reflect the vacancies in the area, but the rents do change depending on the demand to live in the area.   What I did notice was that the price of the three bedroom units has dropped the last few years. There are not many units of the size so a shift in price can affect the graph significantly. Generally, the rents have been pretty steady the last few years. It has been my experience in working in these communities, there has not been a major impact the rental pricing.       View Larger Map

The Roof is Leaking Over My Apartment   There are many ways for a water to get into an apartment unit. A roof leak is one of the most common sources of water intrusion, and it can appear in many different forms. Water from the roof will tend to puddle on the back side of the sheetrock on the ceiling; as the moisture begins to build up, that puddle will expand. The standing water will continue to grow until it reaches a new path, this is usually at the seams of the sheetrock. Inside the apartment you will not see the seams; it is smoothed over during the original construction and textured. After painting, there are no signs of any joints in the drywall. On the back side of this ceiling, the water will fill the joints and travel in that seam as the water rises in the puddle. The joint co...

Sacramento Fence Repair – You May Not Have To Replace The Whole Fence.   The cost of replacing a wood fence can be expensive. Wood prices, supplies and the cost of labor can add up real quick when you are considering replacing your entire fence. In some situations, property owners may be able to save some money by only repairing only the wood that is damaged. Most wood fences in Sacramento tend to remain until it falls over from rot and decay. If this is the case for you, it is likely that you will need to replace the entire wood fencing. However, if we inspect our fences regularly for signs of damage, we can extend its life. Let’s look at the things that can help extend the life of the wood fence. There are three areas in which to look when repairing a wooden fence. Are the Wood Po...

Self-examination -How do you see yourself?   I had to take a look at myself today. It seems that how I perceive myself and how others perceive me aren’t always the same; sometimes these differences can be quite a bit apart. Does this ever happen to you? Think we have more talent then we actually posess. Feel unappreciated, but people are very much wanting our services. Get a list of menial tasks, the tasks end up being critical to the success of the project and needs to be done correctly. The cost of our services are fair, but the client feels they are extreme. You can name many of your own too. The two sides of these situations can be a matter of perception, there is no right or wrong necessarily, just differences in perception. Understanding these gaps can help us with the frustrati...

Water Leak Emergency Requires Immediate Action by Contractor   Water leak emergencies happen in apartment communities, and can affect more than one unit. Immediate action by a contractor can mean the difference in the amount of damage that occurs. The longer it takes to correct the source of the problem and remove the damage, the greater the loss of property. We got a call from an apartment manager in Cameron Park stating that there was a leak in a vacant unit, the refrigerator water supply line was dripping and running down the wall. There were no signs of a leak in the vacant upstairs unit, but the downstairs water was present in the wall and ceiling. Although it was a fresh water leak and the leak repaired by the maintenance staff, we responded that same day. It is important to rem...

We need to get the place ready to rent, But I Can’t Find the Source of the Leak.   I got a call to repair a leak in a bathroom ceiling above the tub, the unit had already been rented and the new tenants will be moving in, five days from now. It shouldn’t be a problem, as long as we can find the source of the water. It was clear that the job needed to be done right away, so we got started. The sheetrock was very wet, even pooling, but the water was not streaming down like there was a water supply leak. This meant that we would have to do some testing. The floor plan in the upstairs unit is identical to the downstairs unit. This made the plumbing in the upstairs tub suspect, but not the only consideration. Two things happened at the same time that this leak was discovered: the first rai...

Cameron Airpark   Imagine landing your little Cessna or Piper, taxiing home, and parking your plane in your own hangar. Just a couple exits up from El Dorado Hills in the community of Cameron Park is Cameron Airpark. The neighborhood surrounding the airpark is called Airpark Estates.     Here you can find homes with not only garages for your cars but also hangars for your planes. The streets are two lane but both lanes are really wide as they have to accommodate planes driving to the homes within the airpark. The street signs and stop signs are just a foot or so off the ground to allow for a wing to go over the top of them if needed.         Homes in the airpark don't come up often but when they do, they generally go pretty quickly. HOA fees are $1300 per year.       When I was a kid we...

How Erosion Can Damage Your Sidewalk   According to Wikipedia, Erosion is the process by which soil and rock are removed from the Earth's surface by natural processes such as wind or water flow, and then transported and deposited in other locations.   This photo was taken in an apartment community in Cameron Park. There were cracks in the sidewalk, areas that had washed out and sank, and areas that have become a "trip hazard". If the soil near your sidewalk, driveway, or foundation is eroding, you may have a problem in the future. In the photo, the soil has been washing away, down the slight slope and into the storm drain. Of course the storm drain filling with soil is not good, and needs to be cleared regularly. Erosion of soil can cause the sidewalk to crack, sink, and create a “tri...
