So my wife and I decided to get away from the Benciia Real Estate shuffle for a week, so we headed to Maui. while we were there I wanted to do some body surfing (which is my favorite thing in the world to do). Well we decided to go looking for the perfect wave on the island. Asked all the locals and they told us to head over to Big Beach on the other side of the island...long drive... Well we got there....and you guessed it.....Glass...looked like a huge lake....not a wave in sight..only old folks...including ourselves! Yup all the waves were in Napili...where we were before the long drive....Well we decided to go look for an adventure. If you are a parent like me, the first of August always brought angst in navigating the Benicia Schools registration for my twin daughters.  Luckily they are doing it themselves now a days at Sonoma State in Rhonert Park.  However the pain of registering them, wondering do I have everything, what time, still haunts me and in hind sight it was really not all that bad. Now there is even better news for the Benicia Unified School Registration process. For those of you with kids in the Benicia Unified School District, you should have received by now a letter describing the new on-line availability for registration.  Their website www.beniciaunified.org says that if the letter was not received by this coming Monday August 11, to call your school site. The other day I look out my back window onto my little piece of Benicia Real Estate and see, what appears to be hundreds of birds(black some brown some with red wings tips) flocking toour backyard.  They swooped in with a rush and landed twittering and bumping into each other.  It did not take much to make them take flight all at the same time, once again bumping into each other as they flapped their wings and tried to appear as those air force planes flying in formation. I thought they had left for greener yard, er, pastures as we do back to open space in Benicia. Yesterday morning down the street and round the corner, the "Birds" were touching down in a neighbor's front yard. and I thought the other day was just a freak of nature...... Can you believe this? Our local Benicia hometown library turn 100 years old.  Obviously our building that houses the books, videos, computers, community room, etc is NOT that old but the history is fascinating! The Ladies Club of Benicia in 1910 strongly asked, ok, demanded a library be built in Benicia.  History says the Ladies actually started in 1903 to get the city officials to agree to a library.  Finally in 1906 with continued pressure from the Ladies Club, city council got it together and wrote a grant to start Benicia a library. Its first location was the old state capitol (which was the city hall at that time) and the first books were delivered and available to the citizens in 1910.
