It's the start of Salmon Season in Benicia on Sept the 4th and every rock all along the spit was covered. I hear 2 fish were caught one the first one of the season by a woman (you go girl) that weighed in at 18 pounds. About the weight of my head without hair. The only other Benicia Salmon taken home was a 9 pounder. I hears there was an 8 pounder on a line ready for dinner by the pier. I took a stroll Downtown Benicia at about 3 in the afternoon on Sunday and there were many folks watching and about 20 folks fishing. This year there is a tackle mobile shop at the water which is awesome, with other things like cold drinks....what a great idea.. What a beautiful day and all the people were more than nice, as everybody was saying hi and this is why I call Benicia the best kept secret in ...

Did you know the Pony Express rode in to Benicia?  There is a memorial marker at the end of First Street near the First Street Pier.  Take a stroll down First Street and visit the marker!  It stands proudly at the end of the pier.  What a great picture to take with you and the beautiful Carquinez Straits in the background.

BENICIA INN AND SPA   Benicia Bed And Breakfast is something I don't think about a lot, but if you are not from Benicia it's something to think about. What a geat way to spend the weekend in Benicia. Staying at the Inn is as relazing as it gets. You can get pampered with a facial, massage and soak in a tub. Now I could do all that at my home here in Benicia, but why would I do that? I sometimes take a day off and just stay at the Inn and get the works and it;s like a real vacation. Great restaurant and wine bar and music what more do you need to carry all your cares away? Call and talk to Jessica and book your night or weekend and enjoy what we here in Benicia call the best kept secret in The Bay Area. The Yuba coming down 12/06/2006 What a great place to live. The history of Benicia is something we as Benician's are so proud of. Come to benicia and drive around and see some historic buildings that bring you back in time. Come see why they call Benicia the best kept secret in the Bay Area.   The Benicia Arsenal 1851-1964, and Benicia Barracks 1852-1866, was a large military reservation located next to Suisun Bay in Benicia, California. For over 100 years, the arsenal was the primary US Army Ordnance facility for the West Coast of the United States. In 1847 a 252-acre (1.02 km2) parcel of land adjoining the Benicia city limits on the east was acquired for a military reserve. First occupation of the post was on April 9, 1849, when two companies of the 2nd Infantry Regiment set up camp ...

BENICIA HISTORY Check out our City's history, as we have come so far in so little time. We have a beautiful City and we are welcoming you to come and see what we call the Bay's best kept secret. California's third capitol at Benicia. The Senate chambers on first floor, and the Assembly chambers above. The City of Benicia was founded on May 19, 1847 by Dr. Robert Semple,[1] and Thomas O. Larkin and Comandante General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, on land sold to them by General Vallejo in December 1846. It was named for the General's wife, Francisca Benicia Carillo de Vallejo. The General intended that the city be named "Francisca" after his wife, but this name was dropped when the former city of "Yerba Buena" changed its name to "San Francisco". So Sra. Vallejo's second given name was us...

BENICIA STATE CAPITOL Benicia's StateCapitol is a great place to visit. It is part of the great charm of our City. It is open to the public and you can take a trip back in time with the furnishings inside which are from the period of the building. After brushing up on your history take a stroll downtown Benicia and you will see why so many people call Benicia their home. Grab some lunch at a local restaurant and come back and throw out a blanket and sit on the lawns that surround the Capitol and have a picnic. We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful City with so many things to do and being right on the water makes Benicia a well kept secret in paradise. For those of us who live in the Southampton Hills of Benicia on the West side, we take our lives in our hands when we carefully walked a very narrow sidewalk across the bridge over HWY 780 near the CVS Pharmacy on the corner of Rose Dr and Columbus Parkway. A new pedestrian crossing opened up to the public use today. This new bridge is well lit and will provide access for biker and hikers to Benicia State Park. The picture below was taken on Tuesday right before it was completed.  Today when I drove by all the constructions trucks and cones were removed. No more dodging cars whizzing past you.  It will be a safe walkway that even high schoolers can get their exercise and walk to school. Keep your eyes out for a new way to get around Benicia! IF you are looking to sell your Benicia Home ...

Have you eaten at  Frankenburgers?  Located at the end of First Street in Benicia, this small intimate dining place has to be tried!  You walk up and order your custom burger or hot dog with a variety of cheeses on a home made bun with lots of veggies. They have a special sauce which tops it off! My daughters love the sweet potato fries, crisp and sweet, they melt in your mouth.  Grab a table outside to watch the ships go by on the Carquinez Straits.  And stroll down First Street to work off those calories. Next time you are in Benicia, hungry and want a quick bite visit Frankenburgers at the end of First Street.  You cannot miss their bright red sign. A place to cool off in Benicia, CA.  Today was quite warm and tomorrow is supposed to be hotter. Benicia is not known for its beaches. Did you know we have one carved into a little cove off the Carquinez Straits? It is located on 9th street and the cross street for access is West K and referred to as 9th Street Park.  There is not only a beach but picnic benches, playground, expansive grass area, and the ever important restroom facilities.  The views are wonderful, take a seat and just "dream a little dream." Bring some food and drink and enjoy a lovely day at a Benicia Beach! Please be safe around the water as there are no lifeguards. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQODeMegX74   Benicia Skate Park: Wheels In Motion Skate Shop is the place to go buy your kid or yourself a board or a bike and head up the hill to the beautiful skatepark. With the promotion of a professional park and a few years of working it very hard Greg from Wheels in Motion really made it happen. I went up the other day with my Grandson Joel and my dog Cassy. Right next to the skatepark is the dog park. What a great place to bring your kids and your dogs. We have the best of all worlds here in Benicia. It is also attached to the greatest park for kids and adults and adult kids. the slide is one of the main attractions at the park. Picnic and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a BBQ, skating, letting the dog run free, or jogging around the park itself....

I have no association with the Current hurricane Earl. In 1998 there was another Hurricane Earl and for some reason the name Earl wasn't so well known. Then there was My Name Is Earl the TV show and the many songs like Dead Cat Earl and Earl is in the Trunk and a few more. I lived a full life without really ever hearing my name associated to anything. I am hoping that this Earl just heads out to sea, so I won't hear about all the damage I have done. Hurricane Earl   The name Earl has been used for five tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean. 1980's Hurricane Earl - drifted over the central Atlantic Ocean without affecting land 1986's Hurricane Earl - drifted over the central Atlantic Ocean without affecting land 1992's Tropical Storm Earl - headed towards eastern Florida then veered a...
