CLICK HERE To search homes for sale in Greater Vancouver & the Fraser Valley When I came upon this home I could not but immediately think of the hillarious scene from National Lampoon's Christmas where Clark Griswald, always over the top with sentimentality, completely covers his house with Christmas lights that blind the neighbours with intensity when he finally gets them to work. This beautiful display located on the northside of Port Coquitlam real estate is right up there with the best and is a must see on any Tri-Cities Xmas lights tour. Well worth a drive out from Maple Ridge:  Stop by 3313 Rae St, just off Prairie avenue.

Color white. Sophisticated, calm and peaceful or deadly and cold? These were the questions that Janice Lindsay made us ponder last week during her lecture at the Interior Design Show West trade day. Janice Lindsay is colour and interior design consultant and the owner of Pink Color & Design in Toronto. She writes for Globe & Mail and has published a book “All about colour”, available through Amazon.com. Janice examined the issue when is it a good idea to use white in interior and exterior design and when does it become a bad choice. She talked about the philosophy behind using white reaching all the way back to ancient Greek and Roman history, followed later by the 18th century and modernist architecture. Since I could not cover it all here, a good article written by Janice covers som...

Getting a Condo Prepared for the Fall Season of Change can be Easy… The last day of summer is a reminder to be getting my condo prepared for the fall, starting with the exterior (we have a large roof top terrace).  The pagoda will be stripped down to the frame so the winds don’t take it away. The pagoda drapery panels will be stored with the outdoor furniture cushions, covers, market umbrella and all the other accessories. The barbecue will be cleaned and covered ready for the spring. The potted plants will be trimmed, wrapped, or whatever is required to protect them. The irrigation is by way of a regular garden hose so we’ll just turn off the water supply from the inside and empty any water to the outside faucet; I can handle that! There are no lawn mowers or other special outdoor mach...

“I believe in dreams. I have to” – Terry Fox (1958-1981)  All "italicized quotes" that follow are also Terry's. These are the words of a hero, and what would inspire “The Marathon of Hope”. Early in the morning of Monday, July 14, 1980, I sat on the south of Lakeshore Blvd at the base of Walkers Line in Burlington, Ontario. In full view was an image now indelibly cast in my memory of this determined young man running in a double-step and skip style suited for his prosthetic leg, on his way from Oakville to Hamilton. All of a sudden I was completely overcome by uncontrollable emotions that I had never quite experienced before. I was only one of a few who were there to offer support to Terry Fox as he came by, and after I feebly roused a “Go Terry” he waved over to me; that’s when I total...

What a great Real Estate Board outing we had yesterday..The Burnaby, Tri-Cities Division of The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, held our annual Golf Tournament yesterday at Carnoustie Golf Club in Port Coquitlam.  We had a full tournament of 144 players.. and at dinner we had close to 180 people... During the course of the day and the evening, we were able to raise almost $10,000 for a local Port Coquitlam Woman's Center.  Great Job Agents and Friends who participated.. It is great to see what we do outside of our normal day to day job to help the community.  _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Click below to find your next house!.   Looking for a home in Maple Ridge or the Lower Mainland of B.C.? Local Port Coquitlam Children Save Baby Seal. A baby seal was abandoned by it's mother at Hopkins Landing.   He was trying to hang onto the pier.  The kids along with the local kids were able to get it up on deck without touching him.  It had been trying to hang onto the pier for about 6 hrs. We carefully put him back into the ocean.   It soon became apparent that he had not enough strength to keep up the fight much longer.  We figured he was going to  drown.  So I said it was O.K. for Luke to pick him up out of the water.   The kids quickly carried him back to our trailer.  We tried not to attract attention so we could keep the little fellow quiet. but hey, this is the Army and soon everyone streamed in to see this cute little guy   Erika-Shaye cuddled him gently, greatly concerned for...

It usually poses a bit of a challenge to market a home for sale when the homeowners have a young child or children. Typical home with young children has adjusted their furniture and accessories to meet the safety settings that work best for the family but aren't necessarily most attractive to home buyers. When a home stager brings in additional furniture items and accessories, they need to first consider the safety of the children. Glass tables, tables with sharp corners and breakable accessories within the reach of the child will pose a problem. Homeowners then are facing a dilemma: how to make their home attractive and appealing to a variety of buyers (even those without little ones) while maintaining kid friendliness and normalcy in their family lives. As a mother of 4 year old twin ...

Our living and working spaces have great influence on our productivity at work and how we feel and behave at home. It can make us feel comfortable and relaxed or uneasy and tired, inspired and energized or stressed and bored. If there is a room or rooms in your home that don't live up to their full potential, take some time to think about how you would like that space to serve you and invest some time into careful planning before you go out and start buying new furniture to change things up. My most recent project was a home office re-design for a gentleman who is a busy entrepreneur and a father of 2 young and energetic boys. All this left him with little time to think about how to organize and design his home office so that it would offer him a pleasant and productive environment for ...

The Traboulay Port Coquitlam Trail has come full circle, as has the relationship between Port Coquitlam and the Kwikwetlem First Nation. A portion of the 25-kilometre loop has been inaccessible since 2004, when the Kwikwetlem band closed off a dike through its reserve. This six-year closure prevented public access to a 1.5-kilometre section of the trail, as well as access by Port Coquitlam city crews to maintain the dike. But the gateway reopened at Port Coquitlams Monday night's council meeting when Chief Ron Giesbrecht and Mayor Greg Moore signed a three-year agreement to once again allow dike access, maintenance and repair. The public can now travel the complete trail, located south of Pitt River Road, except for occasional closures for Kwikwetlem funerals or ceremonies. Port Coquitl...

Today I was marveling at the nearing completion phase of the Port Coquitlam railway overpass project at Coast Meridian.  This near 100 million dollar project will link up the North and South sides of Port Coquitlam eliminating the bottlenecks at the Shaughnessy railroad underpass and the Mary Hill Bypass. The massive changes and reorienting of the road network are mind boggling.  The most obvious change that this overpass project has forced is noticeable at the Coast Meridian and Lougheed Hwy where the Tim Hortons and PoCo Inn and Suites have had significant changes to their access and sites. This project will connect the rapidly growing neighborhoods north of Lougheed highway such as Riverwood with downtown Port Coquitlam and the southern neighborhoods of Citadel and Mary Hill.  Access...
