All it takes is one. One person who could tell stories in a way that could take you on a journey. I'm fortunate to have met some very good story tellers. They've enhanced my life in ways that I could never convey. Storytelling is a gift and an art.... some might say a lost art. If you'd like to hear some of the nation's best story tellers, you're in for a treat. Now in it's sixth year, Mesa's Storytelling Festival has officially begun. It started today (Thursday October 22) and runs until Saturday. Concert tickets are $11 but Saturday's daytime events are free. Details here: Mesa Arts Center Storytelling Festival Featured Storytellers: Sheila Kay Adams Charlotte Blake-Alston Donald Davis Olga Loya Sandy Oglesby Antonio Sacre Willy Claflin Kala Jojo

Recently, the home that I've listed - shown below - has sold. BUT it sold in a really novel way - at least for me. The home is beautiful. Well maintained, lots of upgrades, about 1800 square feet, vaulted ceilings, three car garage and a fenced in pool. To see and view this listing, just click on the link above. A couple of months ago, my seller had someone come through her home, ooing and awwing over the decor, over the wood floors, and loving it, staying for about an hour. (Now that's a real clue, isn't it?) The buyer just happened to jokingly comment to my seller, "maybe you could buy my home and I'll buy your's" or words to that effect. Well, they just chuckled, and I found out from the other agent that her client had not yet listed her home, but once she did and sold it, she'd more...

East Valley water sport amenities In the seemlingly never ending search for the perfect home and garage near lakes where one can waterski, wakeboard or hydrofoil and store the boat/toys in the garage, our search brought us to the likes of the new Blandford development, Mountain Bridge.  Truely, a class act comparable to the likes of it's predecessor, Las Sendas.  For those who have oversized vehicles or a long waterski boat and other toys, you'll love the 6 car tandem garages! A 3 car front but double deep.  Even my picky client could not find anything wrong, he could only say, "now this is what I'm talking about".  Obviously, the house that goes along with this supersized garage is on the higher price tag menu. However,  if you're looking for a some garage space, Blandford listened a...

It happened one day. My daughter and I were in the car... serious-faced- she asked, "Dad, Life's good for you, right?" I was about to answer philosophically when she added, "I mean... better than most cereals?" I was prompted by Gregory Lohr to share that snippet. It was from my comment on his blog post "The Not So Sweet Truth" which is based on this: Consumer Reports Investigates Sugar in Cereal. Still. It begs the philosophical question... Life is good for you, right? The short answer, is yes... life is good. In fact- very good. Let me illustrate: We have a family tradition that's called "Daddy Daughter". It's a large umbrella label for any event in which I'm able to spend time with my daughters. It may be planned well in advance and include somewhat elaborate elements or it may be ju...

I can't believe it's time for the Arizona State Fair again.  Every year, my sisters and I and my mother - who is 90 - get together and go to the Fair. Last year, we brought my little brother - well, he is 56 now - and we had a ball. We drive mother around in her wheel chair, and until last year would take turns since she wanted to walk around and we would ride. It was a crack up watching people's reactions as one of us would stand up to look at something on the display cases. I took pictures from last year, but can't find them since I have a new computer. When I do find them, I'll share. Anyway, we all wear the same color T-Shirt so we can find each other. Last year there were five of us girls, mom and my brother. Hopefully some of you in our area will take some time to go. It begins on...

It is my custom to share my day trips from Mesa, Arizona as evidenced by previous blog posts. Last week, my husband and I traveled 18 miles east of Holbrook, Arizona on Highway 180 to the south entrance to the Petrified National Forest Park. There will be three parts of this post. The first and second part will be information about the Park itself as well as pictures of the Petrified Forest south of Highway 40 and Route 66. I took over 150 pictures of the "tour" and will "try" and ferret out my favorites to share the beautiful landscape of this spectacular park. Once entering the Park going north, there are myriad places to pull over and take pictures as well as views, signs explaining what you are seeing and more. Some of the stops include small hikes of a mile or so. We took one of th...

As many of my readers know, wherever I go, I take pictures. THEN I share them with my readers. Since there are so many, many wonderful places to see in Arizona, I will share as I see. This will be Part I of my trip to Holbrook, Arizona and to the Petrified National Park, located within four hours from Mesa, Arizona. Since Holbrook, Arizona is located on Route 66, there are lots of cool things to see. Our first stop was at the The Wigwam Motel.  I took lots of photos, of course. This is such a cool place. As you can see, The Wigwam Motel is a flashback to the "old days," that SOME of us will remember. Check out that Studebaker Truck....I don't remember that Studebaker made trucks....scattered throughout the motel area are vintage cars, even an old Hudson! How about those little motel roo...

Located just four hours north and east of Mesa, Arizona, is Holbrook, Arizona. Lots of history here, and I will share. As my husband and I drove into Holbrook, we pulled into a gas station on the corner of 77 and Route 66. As he was putting gas in the car, I happened to notice a restaurant across the street that I had seen on Arizona Highways. I grabbed my camera, snapped some photos, and made a mental note: we would stop there for dinner after our tour of the Petrified Forest National Park, just about 18 miles east of Holbrook. After I came back home, I went online to check out the history of this fabulous restaurant! Joe and Aggie's on Route 66! I, for one, recommend this restaurant. They have the best ever Cheese Crisps - one of their specialties AND they serve sopapias! To die for!!...

Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport has brought jobs, and a convenient access to an airport to the east valley. 15 years after closing Willliams Airforce Base, the airport is now a thriving and important hub in Mesa, Arizona. With easy access to freeways along with Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek, flying in and out of this airport is a great choice for visitors to and from the Southeast valley. Since Allegiant Air has entered the picture, and has provided flights in and out of the Airport, more and more are using this great Airport facility. I've included a link from the East Valley Tribune from which this excerpt is taken - Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is just one example of the tremendous growth to the east valley.     Mesa, Arizona Real Estate. It happens. You stumble across a blog and read something that brings up those happy memories. Some people have a gift. They can't help it. Their thoughts are personal and they express them as if they're meant for you alone. You don't know them, but for an instant you feel you do. Such is the experience of reading The Nie Nie Dialogues. This is a blog my daughter would visit. She said, "You know how most kids never wrote in their diary unless they were sent to their room... and then it's page-after-page of angry 'I hate my parents' or 'school is soooo boring' type entries? Well hers is different. It's optimistic and full of beautiful words and pictures." Nie Nie has become the local blogger you feel you know. Whether she's sharing pictures of restoring the guest ranch (that's where the ...

My beautiful listing in the community of Crosspointe just went under contract this past week! Inspections are done, appraisal, and we're on our way. Upgraded to the nines with granite in the kitchen AND the bathroons, new stainless appliances, fireplace, plantation shutters, new carpet and ceramic tile and four bedrooms. This home is located close to desirable Mountain View Highschool and sits at 3617 East Decatur Street, Mesa, Arizona! This community has no HOA, and is extremely well maintained. There seems to be somewhat of a frenzie going on due to the Nehemiah and AmeriDream programs disappearing at the end of the month....the buyers did, indeed, make a great buy!            Mesa, Arizona Real Estate. Along with the success of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport come more and more visitors to the Mesa, and Phoenix East Valley Arizona area. Slated to be built upon the former General Motors' Proving Grounds, the Gaylord Resort will be the largest hotel in Arizona. This hotel, along with the growth of the area, and the airport, will provide visitors with easy access to and from areas in and around the Phoenix Valley - including all of the wonderful day trips they can take within 3 hours from east Mesa. I've provided an excerpt from the East Valley Tribune below; however, you can click om the Gaylord Resort above to get more details. Some of the details not mentioned in this article include: the Mesa project is expected to rise 10 stories, have 1,200 to 1,500 rooms and 200,000 to 300,00 squ...

Allegiant Air once again opens up more flights out of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Beginning on October 24, 2008, Allegiant Air offers non-stop air service between Redmond, Oregon and Mesa Arizona.  Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is easily accessible to the east valley, quickly adding more and more flights. Allelgiant Air fares are very reasonable, and Allegiant focuses on the areas less serviced by larger airlines. I've provided a link for more information on flights in and out of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Arizona hosts many visitors during the winter months who travel from all across the company - especially during the winter (cooler) months. During the summer months, our visitors retreat to cooler areas, such as Redmond, Oregon and vicinity. I heartily recommend my friend, Thesa C...

Okay, those of us who've been around for awhile have heard all of the raves and shouts about the Flip Video? Despite several attempts to capture lightening shots with my Nikon SLR and my Sony Cyber-Shot, I could not get a good shot. So, I jumped online to ask the photo experts their opinion. See them here: I received a bevy of good tips including a link from Bryce Mohan explaining the idea behind shooting fireworks - which just so happened I had posted on when he shared - here.  You will see that I had managed to take some fairly decent shots of fireworks, but had not thought about doing the same thing for lightening. So, are you ready? Drumroll, please! I leisurely went outside last evening as the lightening storms had started, and took my Flip Video. I "thought" there were some good b...

The other day, I shared a list posted on the website of the Arizona Department of Real Estate of builders having financial difficulties. Today, there were two articles for two separate builders in our Phoenix Valley filing bankruptcy - Chapter 11..... 1.  Woodside Homes based out of Utah which have several communities going....one in Mesa, Arizona. The link to that article is from the Salt Lake Tribune.  Hopefully Woodside Homes will be able to work itself out of bankruptcy, and sell some homes. I didn't realize they built in so many states. Woodside floorplans have always been some of my favorite. 2.  Charlevoix Homes is another builder, and that article is found in the Arizona Republic.   Bottom line, everyone is struggling in this market, though I have see positive signs of our marke...

As some of you know, I recently posted a blog about the Arizona monsoon with spectacular photos of cloud formations. I now include an article from ASU about monsoons for your further information.  Well, tonight, one came rolling in - LOVE IT! - and I rushed outside to take some lightening shots. Nothing shows up on my camera, or rather, it will not click 'cause there's not enough light. Please, someone help. Our monsoons are beautiful, and I can catch the rain, the clouds, the dust - but so far, not the lightening. It is thundering as I speak.....and our monsoons will soon go away until next year. All of you shutterbugs out there? Can you share? Wait, could I do the flip video of the lightening? Anyone know? I did capture some photos of the sky lit up but, alas, no lightening...yet! ;-)...

I have another "day trip" to share. This is just about an hour and forty minutes straight north of east Mesa, Arizona. Another spectacular place in our Arizona desert. I had to climb down 90 steps to reach the Waterfall Trail. Going down? Not bad!! Coming back up? Well, how about I confess I'm a little out of shape. Tonto Natural Bridge State Park is at an elevation of 4,530 and located just north of Payson, Arizona. This is an easy day trip to make.....and the bridge? Well, it's awesome! I did not go down to the bottom of that bridge, but will someday and come back and show photos. ;-) Since I live in the desert, it's always a wonder to me to find so much beautiful country. Green country, water, and pristine beauty. This Waterfall Trail is worth every step down and up. It is about 300 ...

I just discovered this really cool document entitled the Home Buyers' Bill of Rights for home buyers and renters in Mesa, Arizona.  The Bill of Rights' for consumers in Arizona begins with a statement as follows: "THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF REAL ESTATE, IN COOPERATION WITH INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS AND THE PUBLIC, CREATED THIS “BILL OF RIGHTS” TO HELP EDUCATE YOU, THE CONSUMER, OF YOUR RIGHTS WHEN PURCHASING OR RENTING PROPERTY.  AS A REAL ESTATE CONSUMER IN ARIZONA, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW MATERIAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROPERTY. THE FOLLOWING LIST REPRESENTS SOME OF THE IMPORTANT MATERIAL FACTS YOU SHOULD EDUCATE YOURSELF ON BEFORE PURCHASING ANY TYPE OF PROPERTY IN ARIZONA." In an effort to better acquaint home buyers and renters with their "rights", I have included a link to the info...
