Gladden Farms, Marana, AZ - Rural Driving - Because You're Worth It I live in Gladden Farms, Marana, AZ – an engineered community about 20 miles north of downtown Tucson.   Our subdivisions are surrounded by rural farmland – wheat and cotton—and further down the roads are black angus cattle herds and horse land.  Mountain views abound in every direction and you forget the “city” is just 10 minutes away. I used to live in rural Wisconsin, about 30 minutes NE of Green Bay, WI, in another farm setting.  There were rolling hills of alfalfa and oats, corn, sorghum, and thousands and thousands of Holstein milk cows.   Traffic was quiet on the rural byways, and tractors often travelled the roads between fields and farms. I am sure by now folks who are not living in the Sonoran Desert are pretty tired of the rain and snow. At this time of year those of us who have made the move here are feeling very smug. With the temps in the mid to high 70's and the cactus are setting their blossoms, it is a wonderful place. Hiking and biking are at their best. Spring training for baseball has started life is good. The housing market here in the Tucson valley is starting to blossom also.  As of January 2010 active inventory was 6,631, a 14% decrease from January 2009. There were 691 closings in January 2010, an increase of 21% from January 2009. Months of Inventory was 9.6, down from 13.5 in January 2009. He's been out of the world of competitive play for nearly a year.  Tiger announced this week that he's fit to play, and he's chosen the World Golf Championship Accenture Match Play in Marana (a Tucson suburb,) to make his debut. What has he missed most in the past year?  "The competition." Growing up on my family's farm near Las Cruces, New Mexico, cotton was a major factor in our lives.  It put food on our table, paid the mortgage on the land, provided my first job, a place to play...you name it, cotton was part of it.  My first trip to DisneyWorld was to a cotton convention, even my first trip to New York City, first Broadway play and first 7-course meal had a tie to cotton! On the way to show a home in Marana today, I took the frontage road next to I-10 and saw the cotton modules on the side of the fields, ready to be taken to the gin.  A little bit of nostalgia washed over me...a little sadness and more than a dose of resignation to the fact that I won't see much cotton in Arizona anymore. Enchanting Vistas at Tangerine Crossing in Marana, Arizona On Wednesday I got a phone call from a person in Florida, asking me about availability of a specific floor plan in a particular neighborhood in the Northwest area of the Tucson Metro (Oro Valley/Marana).  The name of the subdivision rang a bell, but a faint one..."need to get specifics here," common sense told me. Hundreds of residents recently celebrated the opening of the new Tangerine Farms road linking the Gladden Farms housing development with Interstate 10.  On June 25 the nearly 4-mile stretch of brand new road was opened to much fanfare and anticipation of community residents. The new road is four lanes with a center median and sidewalks on both sides and will make commuting much easier for Marana residents, linking both the Gladden Farms and Rancho Marana communities to the freeway.  It will also serve as a major thoroughfare to the planned Fry's Marketplace on the corner of Lon Adams and Tangerine Farms road as well as the Shops at Tangerine, a 281 acre megaplex of retail, dining, entertainment and auto mall.
