Finding the perfect retirement community in Lake Havasu City can be as simple as 1, 2, 3.  Since Arizona is so popular for its pleasant climate, vast public land and recreational opportunities, it's just plain easy to find the perfect retirement community for any senior. Arizona is a crossroad of heritage and culture where several diverse traditions have met and combined into the unique state that has defined Arizona today, which has helped make Lake Havasu City a popular place to retire. Lake Havasu City's retirement communities are made up of two different types of people: permanent residents and snowbirds.  The permanent residents ar...

Utility savings are coming to Lake Havasu City just in time for the winter months this year.  Gas bills are expected to see a 16% to 18% drop this winter because of declining natural gas prices.  This is such good news for Lake Havasu City residents that I just have to share the news in my blog. According to an article I recently came across, the new costs per therm will range from around $1 beginning in November to about 94¢ in March.  UniSource has designed a formula to cushion customers from rapid natural gas price swings. Usually, UniSource under collects for gas and typically has to add a surcharge at the end of the season.  But, in this case, there was an over collection when gas prices dropped very rapidly and there is now an over collection.  So, everyone's monthly natural gas b...

Lake Havasu City needs more supporters to ban together to walk in the upcoming 11th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on October 3rd.  The event is less than two weeks away and it's still quite a few walkers short of last year's turn out. Lake Havasu City's 10th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk saw over 1,100 walkers.  This year, there have only been 800 walkers to register so far.  Some blame the economy on the low turnout, but there is still time to register.  Let's encourage one another to ban together to walk for this great cause. The event will be held on October 3rd at 8:00 a.m. on 100 Park Ave. in the south parking lot of the Aquatic/Community Center.  Proceeds from the event will go to help women receive $10 mammograms regardless of insurance benefits.  Women in need of mam...

From the news I recently read, it looks like Lake Havasu City's high energy bills will soon be a thing of the past.  The Lake Havasu City Council recently took steps to pass a new ordinance for the use of solar energy that just might make high energy bills a thing of the past. The Lake Havasu City Council unanimously voted for allowing height exceptions and allowing solar panels to exceed the current 15-foot residential height limits by 3 feet.  With the new ordinance, solar panels can really maximize their potential. Two options were presented for voting.  Option one was to allow solar collectors to extend 18 feet with an application of 25% of the roof and required a setback of 10 feet from the edge of the roof.  Option two was a similar option one, but the solar collectors would have ...

Time is running our for Lake Havasu first-time home buyers to take advantage of the First-Time Home Buyers Tax Credit.  It is September already!  This means you only have a few more weeks to locate a home and close escrow before the November 30, 2009 deadline. Don't Wait or You May Lose Out At this time, there is no extension to the tax credit, even if you are in escrow.  Sometimes, delays occur and escrow extends the expected timeline.  Loan processing may take a little longer than is expected or there may be some issue that would come up in escrow that would take time to resolve.  No matter what the reason for the delay, you will lose the tax credit if escrow does not close on or before November 30.  So, opening escow as soon as possible is critical. Tax Credit Advantages     * Dollar...

Lake Havasu City's 13th annual Iron Man Golf Tournament had an all-women team competing for the first time ever this year, which made local history at the Courses at London Bridge Golf Course on August 29, 2009. The all-women foursome included Anita Merideth, Cathy Blackman, Maria Delyria and Marilyn Mark,s who won second place at the full day event during a 54-hole, three course golfing tournament.  Way to go girls! It actually turned out to be an awesome event.  The Pro Therapy's foursome that included David Bell, John Twomey, Ken Kent and Scott Rodman took the winnings.  They then donated back 75% of those winnings to the Eagles scholarship fund.  The Fraternal Order of Eagles hosted the tournament, so those winnings went back toward the youth organizations and scholarships.  Talk ab...

The renovation for Windsor Beach has begun, thanks to the efforts of the Lake Havasu City Marine Association.  A $600,000 renovation is planned for Windsor Beach.  The renovations not only improve existing docks at Windsor Beach, but will also add three new ones.  The new docks will be placed at Windsor Beach 4, another at the personal watercraft ramp on the west and a third one west of the south ramp. The new aluminum docks were delivered near the Triple Axle parking lot on August 3rd.  The Lake Havasu City Marine Association hopes to have them all in place by Labor Day.  The planned work schedule is posted at the beach entrance.  Other planned renovations include new sidewalks and asphalt repair at the north ramp. The Lake Havasu Unified School District officially approved a new principal Tuesday night.  The Governing Board was in a rush to find a new principal due to the sudden death of Susan Lust from Oro Grande Elementary. As I read the article about the death of Susan Lust, I learned that Brad Gardner, who was the assistant principal of Thunderbolt Middle School, will now be the principal of Oro Grande Elementary School.  I also learned that he was completely surprised to get the call offering him the position. Mr. Gardner has been in the education business for more than 25 years and in the Lake Havasu City area for 10 years, with four years in the Lake Havasu Unified School District. After doing some research, I have found that Oro Grande Elementary is a wonderful school that is already exce...

A statewide property scam is now targeting homeowners in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.  This scam comes in the form of an official-looking county property tax relief that is so official looking it has scammed thousands throughout the state already.  It comes through the mail offering the assistance of a property review board to help lower taxes for a fee of $189.  The scam also includes a deadline date for quick processing. Even the local newspapers are getting calls from homeowners with questions about the suspicious letter to see if anyone has any answers for them. Some owners, but not all, already know that it is free to file a property tax appeal.  So, those who do know that it is free are the ones onto the scam and questioning it.  It is the ones who don't know that it is free to file...

Realtor® Cheryl Westwood  ~  Lake Havasu City Real Estate   Trash has always been a problem on any lake around the world, but keeping Lake Havasu Lake clean is what residents around the community of Lake Havasu City are concerned about.  Therefore, the London Bridge Yacht Club and the Lake Havasu City Marine Association banded together Tuesday in a huge volunteer effort to clean up a popular beach on the lake known as "That Beach", which was found extremely littered with trash over the weekend. Many believe it was the work of local resident teenagers looking to have a little extra fun.  The trash cans were just stocked with plenty of trash bags, as they always are at the end of the week, so there will be plenty for the weekenders to have on hand. On Tuesday, the volunteers bagged the me...
