Survival , This scene is pretty enough to make it worth living for. I didn't move here so that I could survive if the world came to destruction. I moved here because it is pretty, and peaceful. In order to live here I did have to create my own existence. I am fairly self sufficient at my land. It is off the grid, meaning, there is no proprietary power to the property. Actually there is none for miles. My electricity is solar, I have a private well and rain catchment. I use bottled propane for cooking and heating and refrigeration. If you were truly concerned about survival I would consider installing solar power instead of relying on proprietary power. The Gadsden Hotel was first established in 1907, five years before Arizona got it's statehood. This 5 story, 160 room hotel has quite a Historic and ghostly history. The hotel is grand, yet inviting, to both the living and to those whom refuse to pass on.  It's been a central place for people to meet up at for decades. Check out this hotel from the past and maybe visit with someone from the past also. The original building burned to the ground in 1928 and was rebuilt in 1929. The only surviving structure from the original building was its marble staircase. Which is where the first part of this ghostly past begins. These days this is a very common event. I'm sure there have been a kazillion attempts out there. My partner and broker has been purchasing properties for the past 5 years or so with the purpose of doing just that. I came on board with him a little over a year ago. I would go and check out a remodel he was working on. It was a lovely, but train-wrecked, Craftsman home. He was working on it when he had time and his crew was not having to do a property management task. I could see his visions and , of course , had my own opinions. Well, I didn't work with him then, I had chosen a larger franchise office in Bisbee. I soon changed offices because it was too far away and came to work with Albert because he was creative and smart. The best negotiator I'd ever met and he was very generous with ...

I'm up early completing my marketing materials for an event that the city of Douglas AZ is hosting. They are having an All Classes Reunion events have been going on and will continue throughout the weekend. There is a golf tournament tomorrow . During the reception after the golf tournament there is opportunity for real estate businesses and others to present to the attendees reasons to move home. I'm preparing listing flyers, a video and reasons to move back or invest in Douglas Arizona, or Cochise county. Took quite some time but I figured out how to download our listings right from the mls to flyers that are a list with pictures of the listings. Here is the schedule. There is also a bike race this weekend. And apparently...rain and wind from hurricane Norbert! What's up with that!? W...

On October 1st, from 10 am to 2 pm the Canadian Snowbirds are performing here in Douglas. ...Yes it is a Wednesday. I asked Robin " Why a show in the middle of the week?" She said that they have a very busy schedule and being our first time having them all they could give us was a weekday. She said they are amazing and it would be well worth some time in the middle of the day. So,....... I looked around a bit and found in blogs and this news article from earlier this year that they are among the most amazing flight teams ever. If you want to do real estate business next Wednesday I suggest you find me at the air show!

The population of our planet is rising and rising. This is good for many people because there is the possibility of more friends! However many of the cities and suburbs are too populated for some of us. Douglas is a small city that is growing. It still has lower property prices that are seeing a slight increase in value. I believe that slow growth is a better way to go. There is less risk and feels like our community is solid and not being overinfatuated with itself. Douglas is a U.S. border city. Agua Prieta is the sister city to Douglas. Agau Prieta has a population of 120,000 people. Douglas is sitting at 17,000. Quite a difference. However the 2 cities are socially, economically and politicaly connected. Many folks have a home in each city and many more if not most have family that ...

What a day! I was at my home office calling folks, following leads and responding to emails. By 1pm it just got too darn hot. Yes June is here! This is the hottest month for this area. So I got in my truck and drove out of the hills in air conditioning and went to town to pick up a lock box. Thought I would work at the office after that becuase it would be cooler there and I'd have folks to commiserate with. Got my lock box and started to drive away and got that nasty ding (that is really more like a boing from the gong show!) "check guages" .....my oil guage was failing. It's all going through my head...every scenario of possibilities, I'm lucky I came out alive with all the stress from that gong! Hoping that my erratic driving to keep the pressure up wouldn't attract police I got myse...

Douglas Arizona has some rather interesting stats. Especially considering it has only an estimated 17,500 population. One contributing factor is across the Mexico border. There are estimated 120,000 people living in Agua Prieta MX. Possibly the fastest growing city in Mexico. We have a Walmart Superstore....I'm sure the folks who put that together had an inkling of the data coming from here.  The following is some data gathered by the Cochise College Center for Economic Research www.cochise.edu/cerfor the Douglas 2006-2007 perspective.Population estimates and projections Year                     Douglas                       Cochise County2000                    14,312                           97,624 2006                    17,468                           134,9502007                  ...

Well, I had never heard of Douglas Arizona till I moved to the area. It is a rural city on the Mexico Border. There are about 17,000 people living in the city and several more scattered about in the vast valley and mountains nearby. Agua Prieta Mexico is the sister city on the other side of the border. It is the fastest growing city in Mexico..recent data shows 120,000 people living there. Douglas is in the high desert. It is 3900 feet above sea level. Our height makes this really quite a nice place to live. Except for a couple of weeks in June hovering at 100 degrees our summers top out in the low 90's. Nice change from Phoenix which has several months over 100 degrees and August will tear you apart with it's 118 degrees. It's like having a hot hair blower on you constantly. Well it's ...

Douglas, Az is a great place to live and retire.  As a newly returned resident, I am very excited to see the new construction and subdivisions in Douglas.  But I am even more excited to see all the older homes being remodeled and renovated.  Douglas was incorporated in 1905 with Phelps Dodge being the main source of income for most people.  The old smelter is gone now, for several years, but many of the older homes remain in good condition.  The Gadsden Hotel just celebrated its 100 year anniversary.  The historic towns of Tombstone and Old Bisbee are only minutes away as are Sierra Vista and Fort Huachuca.  And Old Mexico shares our southern border.  The Border Patrol are very visible here.  We have a new training facility just west of town.  The weather is much nicer than Tucson or Ph...
