~ Verde Valley Canyon Moon ~ Somewhere between Clarkdale and Perkinsville, AZ You can drive from Clarkdale, Arizona to the old mining ghost-town of Perkinsville in an hour and twenty minutes, but why would you?  The canyons of Arizona make you want to pull over on the side of the road, get out and explore, preferably with your camera. Spectacular scenery draws visitors from around the globe to the old mining towns of Clarkdale, Jerome and Cottonwood.  Look on the map, and you'll find this area is southwest of one Arizona's better known destinations, Sedona. As the Verde Canyon Train snaked its way north through the valley from Clarkdale, hugging the canyon wall, I was definitely not in my seat!  The vistas from the comfortable passenger cars are spectacular, but you can't look up.  Between the enclosed passenger cars on the Verde Canyon Railroad are open flat cars where amateur photographers such as I could look up to the canyon's rim to capture views unseen by the less adventurous.  It was cold the day after Christmas in the canyon!  Inside the heated passenger cars, armchair travelers lounged in comfortable seats, looking out the windows, but enjoying only a small part of what the ride has to offer. Concerts in the Park - Clarkdale Bring your dancin' shoes and be prepared to dance and bang your head to the music of Aces n Eights on Saturday, June 14th, from 6-8 p.m.  This concert is part of Clarkdale's free Concerts in the Park series.   Like the doors swinging open of an old saloon, Aces n Eights has everyone turning their heads to see who is coming through. A new band for our area but certainly no new talent. This 4 member band is really making a statement. Their style is unique only in the manner that they play a great variety of music ranging from Shania Twain to Judas Priest. Each of the members has brought their own flair to the stage. Martin Etcheverry would be considered the leader of the group, playing lead guitar and also adding vocals, he is considered their "blues man".... 06/10/2008

About 20 miles from Sedona there's a planned community in Clarkdale AZ named Mountain Gate.  It's a development done by Empire Homes done in several phases with about a dozen or more different floorplans.  A few years back it was the rage because they were building for a price unheard of in Sedona... and it was appealing to buyers looking for local property (without the red rock views or Sedona mailing address) for an affordable price.  Well, it all came tumbling down a week or two back when Empire declared bankruptcy.  It's in all the local papers and it's affecting lots of people that live there.  The homebuyers were promised a clubhouse, pool, workout facility... that will now never be built.  There's also the chances that unpaid subcontractors can put mechanic's liens on the houses.... 03/19/2008
