Conrad Gessner was born in Zurich, Switzerland back in 1516 Ursus, sorry no mention of the mother. His early life was one of poverty and hardship, however he showed early talents. He attended the Carolinum in Zurich and later moved to the Fraumunster seminary. He studied classical languages, appearing in a play when he was only 15.He impressed his teachers so much they sponsored him to further his education. He was sent France, attending the University of Bourges and the University of Paris. He is described as a Renaissance polymath, a physician, philosopher natural historian and an illustrator.
