GARDENING AND READING FUN AT EMMET O'NEAL LIBRARY IN CRESTLINE VILLAGE         The Summer Reading Program at Emmet O'Neal Library was something I participated in every summer as a child.  I read lots of books!  That was a few (lol) years ago and I wish I had as much time for reading as I did back then.   This year, young readers from pre-schoolers to teenagers and their families, had fun not only reading, but cultivating a garden right across the street from the library, on a plot of land owned by Oak Street Garden Shop.  The kids grew tomatoes, beans, squash and zucchini, with the garden shop providing the seeds, tools and plenty of help to make their garden a success.  And what a success!  The garden flourished and they were able to help those in need by donating excess food to Magic ... 08/19/2010

Birmingham residents want to know what's for dinner? And I don't mean in their own kitchens.  Birmingham restaurants are answering the call and ringing the dinner bells in the form of new restaurants. The Birminhgam News reported in the Sunday edition that Americans are easing up on the purse strings and are slowly making their way back into dining out.  For new restaurants recently opened in the Metro Birmingham area, that is music to their ears.Among the line up of restaurant newbies are:Pizza Express is serving up gourmet pizza (located on Hwy 280).  Papa Murphy's Take and Bake pizza restaurant is in Hoover and Homewood and will launch another at the Summit in the fall.   Meeting Scheduled To Discuss Mountain Brook Flooding Issues       A meeting to discuss plans for the next phase of the Watkins Brook Flood Hazard Mitigation Project has been set for 6:00 PM on June 1st at Mountain Brook Junior High School.  There have been some reports the meeting would be postponed because of a conflict with the Alabama party primary elections being held that same day, but officials at The City of Mountain Brook chose to move the location in order to avoid a delay.    This phase of the project includes:        Replacement of Montevallo Road Bridge       Improvements to a culvert by Regions Bank   Planners and engineers will be presenting construction schedules and plans to reroute traffic while the work is being completed.  All merchants and residents that may be aff... 05/27/2010
