Congratulations to Cassie Chmielowicz from Anchor Point Alaska for being featured in People Magazine for the beautiful Christmas Ornaments she has made for years....  People Magazine featured handmade ornaments from each of the 50 States and Cassie was chosen to represent Alaska.   The magazine googled galleries across the nation and came across the Art Shop Gallery owned by Karin Marks at http://www.artshopgallery.com  The contacted Karin and the rest is history. Personally I have been buying these ornaments for years and taking them to my family in Kansas. They love the bright cheery face paddling the kayak with little bears, and berry baskets. I also get my sister Jonna an angel every year...   After all this attention I went and bought myself one finally! They are just plain darling...

Winter Solstice is officially December 21st  2009 at 8:47 AM Alaska Time   Winter Solstice in Alaska is important! We are the land of extremes .... Winter Solstice is the longest night, shortest day .... But most important... .it marks the beginning of the return of daylight!  Daylight is on the way back! We start gaining about 10 seconds a day and that will escalate each day up to the Summer Solstice where we will have the longest day and shortest night....    Check out these sites for more information http://fairbanks-alaska.com/midnite-sun.htm    http://www.alaskaanchorage.net/alaska_winter_solstice_festivals.php    http://downtownwintersolstice.com/

There were a lot of moose visiting town today.... Maybe because it is so close to Christmas they were doing last minute shopping... or last minute eating... it was hard to get pictures of them but I saw one moose on Lakeside Street across from Ulmers, another one at the All Hopped Up Coffee Shop on Pioneer   We had a visitor at Bay Realty today too!    Small but Hungry! Thanks for Stopping By! Everyone is Welcome at Bay Realty in Homer Alaska

Is this pretty or what?   An amazing site to see.... Full Moon in one direction and Glorious Sunset over the ocean the other direction....   But my favorite is right here     Looking thru a few dark and elegant trees at the top of Bay Crest Hill with the volcano in the background It doesn't get better than this!

Noah was my Secret Agent the other day as we made an unofficial visit to the Boys and Girls Club   Wanted to see for myself... the children the city is going to throw into the streets come winter   They were an unruly group... probably don't deserve the city's consideration....   I mean really the city council has tough decisions to make ..... they said so....   and these kids are just not really all that important to the well being of Homer Alaska???   Why not just throw them out in January.....well unless you vote for sales tax on food... and then maybe....     You can not tell me these children don't deserve the City of Homers consideration....   Use your votes wisely in the next election and all following elections... Time to make some changes and those changes start with people who...

Good News! Homer Alaska rates 94 out of 100 in the Walk Score.   Have you ever heard of the walk score for cities? They look at many factors to decide this .... Walk score basically measures how easy it is to walk to nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks and of course art shops and such! I put in Bay Realty's address 331 E Pioneer Ave Homer Alaska and it was 94 out of 100!  That makes us a Walkers Paradise!     Check it out here..... http://www.walkscore.com/get-score.php?street=331+E+Pioneer+Ave+Homer+Alaska&go=Go Of course I have to say maybe this score won't hold up in the winter...especially with the city threatening to cut snowplowing on the roads and sidewalks if we don't all vote to re-instate the sales tax on non prepared food... but that is a topic for another time...(scro...

Have you read the press release from the City Manager regarding his  budget and essential service cuts?   WOW! They are going to cut a lot... According to the Homer News they are going to cut the following: *Eliminate Community Schools after the winter term; * Cut eight-and-a-half city jobs, including Community Schools Director Mike Illg's position; * Shut down the old intermediate school building housing the Boys & Girls Club and the west campus of Kachemak Bay Campus; * Close the Homer Public Library on Mondays; * Reduce snowplowing, sidewalk clearing and street cleaning time; * Cut a $30,000 appropriation to the Homer Chamber of Commerce; * Cut funding to nonprofits and reduce support for the Pratt Museum by $20,000; and * Threaten 24-hour police, fire and EMT response.   Wow! Noah wants to remind all drivers to be careful when they see the school bus!  School just started this week and we all need to be aware when the bus stops and let the children off. Kids can run and make mistakes so the drivers need to be cautious and not hit one of them...Please Safety First!   This year's National School Bus Safety Week theme is:"Avoid Harm, Obey the Stop Arm" The dates are: October 19-23, 2009 (National School Bus Safety Week is always held the third full week of October.)

Walking on the beach at Lands End of the Homer Spit we spotted this bird.... supposed to be from New Zealand...    it always amazes me how many birds come here from all over the world to spend the summer and hang out in Homer Alaska... Birds like Homer just as much as people do...  we get people from all over the world too!     Some people call Homer the 8th Wonder of the world... maybe a stretch...but it sure is pretty here... and still very affordable.. You can still buy a piece of paradise. Right here right now!
