The Love Boat comes to Homer Alaska!   The first cruise shop hit the Homer Harbor today!   It was great to see the impressive Amsterdam dock at our port!   The people came and traveled thru Homer all day.... Too bad we are still in the brown dusty stage of Spring! But still they seemed to enjoy themselves... and we enjoyed welcoming them to our Cosmic Hamlet by the Sea! Homer Welcomes the Holland American Cruise Shops and the People Who Rode in on the Amsterdam!

Anyone seen that show... tougher in Alaska?  It is a pretty good show... our good friend Geo Beach goes from job to job and shows how earning  a living in Alaska might be a little tougher than the average... whether it is mining for gold, ice trucking or working for power companies in below zero, wind blowing, mind numbing scenarios...  there is always a little wrinkle to doing normal jobs in Alaska! I did tell him he should do a show on Realtors in Alaska...try finding corners in a blizzard.... For some reason I thought of Geo tonight when I saw these kids ride by....   Kids are a little tougher in Alaska   Oh Yeah...... On the Beach.....   Homer Alaska http://www.history.com/content/tougher-in-alaska/host-s-bio Check out Geo on History Channel

Went out to the Homer Spit today... thought we would check it out ... see what was going on...drove out to the end of the road   Snowflakes were sprinkling down and the sky was gray with some promise of light... Drove over to where Jean Keene aka the Eagle Lady had lived... they have pretty much erased her from her spot.. Too  bad the city of Homer couldn't have put a park up there to remember her by... True they let her live there all that time but now..... poof it is all gone... She still has some friends left...   They hang there...   Waiting...

Jean Keene, the "Eagle Lady" passed away a year ago January 13, 2009. She was 85.    Jean Keene lived in a campground on the Homer Spit since her relocation to Alaska in 1977. Jean began feeding a pair of eagles on the Spit shortly after her arrival. She worked for a seafood plant where she had permission to gather surplus and freezer burned fish for the eagles. After ten years, more than 200 eagles were coming by Jean's place for breakfast. Jean loaded fish into barrels and then into her pickup for the short drive home. Before she doled out fish to the eagles, she chopped them into smaller chunks making it easier for them to carry. Jean fed 200 to 300 eagles about 500 lbs. of fish daily from late December through mid April. For her love and generous efforts to help the Eagles she was t...
