I am very excited about setting up a charter boat to fish Halibut in Homer Alaska.   I have a relative that lives in Wasila Alaska that has lived in Alaska now for 7 years. Well he has fished off charter boats in Homer for several years now.   He is setting up a trip around the 3rd week of June this year. Price per person is $300 dollars and persons fishing can keep 2 halibut fish. The weight of halibut fish can run from 30 lbs to 300+ give or take.   Now some people this $300 dollars to fish halibut is expensive. But if you crunch numbers on how much halibut fish cost in stores and how many pounds of halibut you will be taking home after fishing, you come out ahead price wise. Average person fishing will take home approx $1200 dollars in value of fish, give or take.   $1200 - $300 - $4...

The Virtual Traveler - Debra Leisek's Homer Alaska Several years ago, my husband and I sold our home in Bartlett IL along with many of our worldly belongings. We bought an RV and hit the road. We lived in that 34-foot RV for a year with two kids and a yellow lab. We were fortunate enough to see incredible places and many of the areas where my fellow ActiveRain members live and work. It was important during our travels to make sure we avoided snow. Because of this, we never ventured any further north than Washington state. When Gayle mentioned this new AR challenge, it was a no-brainer for me. I knew immediately the person and area to write about. Debra Leisek does a wonderful job of not only telling us about Homer, Alaska but showing it to us as well. Is there any wonder why I would pic...

Alaska Bear Adventures With K Bay Air Near Homer, Alaska       In Homer, the girls went on an Alaskan Bear Adventures excursion while the boys went halibut fishing. We both had a great time!                Just the flight to the wildrness area was amazing. We got to see a volcano with water that never froze due to the heat from the volcano. There was also an amazing glacier that had a lake below that flowed and dropped ice into the ocean.                  Some of you have already seen one of my bear shots and asked how close I was to the bears. Well... I was this close. :)   The hike to the bears was about 2 miles. It is not a "hard" hike, but the boots that you wear weigh a ton and they sink down in the mud when you cross the creeks, so it is very tiring. Don't get me wrong, I woul...

Wednesday we went on a plane to a wilderness bear viewing. It was AMAZING! When get home I will write a blog about it. If you ever go to Homer, Alaska and have the opportunity to do it, you should. Just the flight over was impressive, and then THIS! We ended with a momma bear and her two cubs. The cubs were born in February which makes them 4 months old. They were SO cute!

Moose Monday! Downtown Homer Alaska Last week the air was crisp, sun was shining and the temperature was really low... like 5 degrees and less... I was driving down Pioneer Avenue almost to work when I noticed a moose happily munching on a bush.... I pulled into the Art Shop Gallery to watch the moose make her way across the street... I never get tired of seeing a moose in downtown Homer Alaska

Ninth Annual Kachemak Heritage Land Trust Auction Homer Alaska Knock the dust off grandpa's old top hat. Drape Aunt Suzie's feather boa across your shoulders.  It's time for the Kachemak Heritage Land Trust annual auction! This year's theme is PERPETUITY AND BEYOND - hanging on to what you value. For you it may be your grandmother's long white gloves, or the beaded purse your mom carried to church. Maybe it's an oil-skin jacket you bought in Australia when you traveled there in the 70's. Whatever it is, bring it out and give it a night on the town! For the Land Trust it's all about setting aside land in perpetuity, so our kids and their kids can hike and fish on property that belongs to all of us - thanks to the wisdom and generosity of people like you! Saturday, November 20th, 6 - 10pm...
