The same subject is on the ballet here Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate . I would vote against it. I waisted about 10 years being a pot head back in the 70's. Pot does steal "gumption". I also find it hard to believe it doesn't damage one's lungs adding to all the other medical woes out there.
The big lure is "all the revenue it will bring in" and if we don't do it all that money will flow to a neighboring State. In reality they are just saying "we politicians want to spend even more money".

I'm in Kalifornia where it's been "legal" (actually de-criminalized but not legal) for a while. It is having the outcome those of us with common sense expected it to have. Drug use is up, drugged driving/DUI is up.
Under the agreement that admitted California to the Union, and I assume Florida as well, a state may NOT create a law the contradicts Federal Law, so no matter what your state (or mine) votes, it is moot and still illegal. I'm not a lawyer, but from what I read violating that agreement is treason.

HA! It IS legal for recreational in AZ as of Prop 207 2020.
For medical use via Prop 203 in 2010.
I am a child of the 60s/70s and I voted yes on 203 and NO on 207.
Have you driven around here during snowbird or river rat season? LOL these people don't need more chemical enhancement behind the wheel.

Fred, I would vote NO.
I would be open to an amendment for the use of medical marijuana for those who are terminally ill or in severe chronic pain. It would have to be carefully controlled by a physician and the language would need to be airtight to prevent abuse by the physician writing the prescriptions.

Fred, I'm only surprised that it's not already legal in Florida.
Ohio has already gone down that path and while I don't follow it that closely, I believe people are allowed to grow a small number of weed plants for personal use. There's still local battles over allowing dispensaries and the like.
I find it a bit ironic that I spent part of my time in the Navy on interdiction ops to try and keep the stuff out of the country, and now we're "smoke 'em if you got 'em!".

I have no idea what will happen in Florida. I've given up wondering what on earth is going on in Florida. But the penalties for marijuana violations have been far too severe for far too long. I have seen people get longer sentences for a small baggie of marijuana than someone who was found guilty of a crime with a shooting. And I'm not just talking about just under Democratic presidents, under Republican presidencies, too.

I say legalize it ALL and collect the taxes. Why not!
After all, it's only making our Government bigger anyway fighting the war on drugs well over 30+ years, collecting on seized funds etc. and that ain't working, except in making a larger police force and other agencies... People are going to do whatever they want.
But once it's legal, make the punishments harsher for offenders (like selling to a underage could cost you a LIFE sentence) - LOL
After ALL - it's my Body and no one should have the RIGHT to tell me what to do with it... (I think I've heard that statement somewhere else! LMAO)

The key word is legalized here. People are going to do what they do either in public or in private. Marijuana has a rich history of making the point it is here to stay. The fact that it will add billions to all economies hasn't been unleashed yet, but it is coming. My son the attorney is one of the foremost scholars on this subject & lectures accordingly. He also owns a dispensary

I'm in favor of decriminalizing (without legalizing) marijuana - marijuana is at worst, relatively harmless (compared to alcohol and other coping/dependency/vice related things), and at best, therapeutic - the government shouldn't even be playing a role in it's consumption or distribution in any way that differentiates it from any other therapeutic OTC substance.

Seemas to be a trend nationwide. While I frown upon drug use, I don't think it is too harmful for society and not worth locking people up over it. I think it needs to be reclassified at the federal level if it has not been done already. I imagine it would bee a boon to fast food outlets.

It's become a far more complicated issue in recent years. Despite my lack of interest in anything smoking related- I was never against decriminalization, and liked the idea of legalizing it for tax dollars and reduced need for enforcement $ being spent by the government. Back in the day, this wasn't really a gateway drug for the majority of users. It's very different now as genetic engineering has dramatically changed the levels of THC. I only know a little bit on this topic- but it sure sounds like the medical world hasn't kept pace with the risks of these new strains. I would have supported legalization in the past, but now I am not so sure.
