I've been camping for week without electricity on purpose but, water was abundant at the river and in our supplies.

I feel like you meant plumbing vs water since no human can typically live a week without drinking water. It's all in how you ask the question. 😉

Oh boy it would be tough in the summer with our hot temps to go without either.  But we have had electric go out a time or two over the years and somehow we managed. Thankfully it wasn't for too long.  As for water we've made it a habit to have some on hand, just in case.  Would it last 7 days.....not sure.

Home again, home again...

"could" I?  Yes, I could... I have enough supplies that I could manage... I would not be a happy camper (literally), but I could.

Electricity - based on where I live - YES.

Water - likely not. The "experts" say for humans - 3 days max depending on age, condition, etc.

The RIGHT CHARLOTTE REALTOR!

I did 21 days during Hurricane Hugo when it came through Charlotte in 1989 - so yes, I could do it! It is NO fun and hauling water from nearby swimming pools and the lake is not a fun thing to have to do just to flush your toilets!

That's with no damage to my home whatsoever; what those in the NC mountains (and other areas of the southeast) are experiencing is far beyond anything imaginable to me. They are truly devastated and have lost everything.

We have been subjected to that, yes, and we survived. Assume you mean running water. We had access to bottled water and pool water for flushing (septics and wells).

I could but wouldn't want to. We've probably gone about 4 days without electricity after a winter storm. We have gas stove, fireplace and water heater so it wasn't uncomfortable. I guess it was as close to camping as I get. Lol! The kids enjoyed it because we made it fun. But, after 4 days I was over it.

The people who were damaged by Helene are over it too. The weather is about to turn and many don't have clean clothes or a way to cook. They're exhausted from helping other.

Well I have been longer without running water (had a well) and power after a tornado in 1992.  We had bottled water to drink.  I think it was about 18 days total.

Yes.  And probably a year without any new food.  We do have a generator, actually multiple generators including solar and one to run our well.  But in the Army I went longer than 7 days without fresh water or electricity.

I know it's not what you meant but no one can live without water for 7 days! But if you just mean in our homes with no running water, if we had to do it, we would have to - we'd have to find another source of water or we'd have to relocate to somewhere with water. As for electric, it's doable, just not as comfortable as having the electric. And for anyone with electric stoves and appliances, they'd have to have a backup plan - woodstove cooking, bbq, camp stove, etc.

I could live without electric but lack of water would be a major challenge.

In summer with no AC it would be REALLY tough! My spa has 400 gallons of sanitized water and I always have 10 gallons of alkaline water in my refrig . . . so water may not be as tough as electric. I have supplies to last months, and a small solar generator. I need a bigger one!

Hi Will-, I've gone 3 days without power and no generator. But we always have a supply of water. I've also gone 4 days but had a generator system that ran everything but our A/C.

Larry went on a kayaking expedition in the Everglades and had to take everything he needed in his kayak...he took water and food for 10 days because there was nowhere to buy it once he was there.

The toughest part is porting water from the creek, so that we can flush the toilets!
