It seems like there is a great deal under attack but I haven't heard of a 1031 exchange. The powers to be only want themselves to be tax free

I can see where a politician would see red over an exchange due to the loss of  tax revenue Peter Mohylsky, Beach Broker . This could be a politician from either side of the isle as they both love to spend, spend, spend.

1031 Exchanges are under attack. It has happened in the past, also.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.  I think it will go nowhere again, and I love the 1031, but it is a huge gift of tax deferment.

The 1031 exchange was vehicle has been under attack for years. If the politicians actually understood it, which they do not, they might be successful is making changes. That said politicians are supported by those who like the 1031 exchange provisions, so it is good conversation but unlikely to get support. It's an election year.

I think it would take an act of Congress to eliminate the 1031 Exchange.  I worry about the attack on people that have sacraficed their time and effort to get ahead.
