I have been retired for years and my life has not changed as no longer being a dues paying  member.  That said the RPR program could benefit many who are not members of large national franchises with their own internal technology departments.

Well, I'm sure many will take their pop-shots, myself included normally, but since you'll likely get enough NAR hate speech, I'll offer what little I know they provide on the positive side:

✅Political Representation against legislation designed to hurt us.
✅Training: I do have some designations that represent fantastic training,
✅Dr. Lawrence Yu Chief Economist provides amazing reports and information for keeping ourselves and our clients in facts not fears.
✅Marketing Resources
✅Education & Market Research

See, I too would 100% hate them, and the settlement has me at 99% hatred but the 1% I appreciate, is because of Buffini & Company's relationship with them. Brian has shown us members some of the positive attributes - even though they're overshadowed by incompetence and corruption.

I have never felt there was any value. I consider the requirement to belong to the NAR to have access to MLS a form of enforced unionization.

From my local chapter, I get some good training and I buy lockboxes.  My local chapter is always very professional and helpful.    I also get access to forms and RPR.   And they "tell me"  that they lobby to protect my Independent Contractor status.   My faith in them has waned over the years, I am ready to explore options,   Not happy with their pro-athlete stratosphere salaries, either.

This is definitely a very politically charged question.  My answer is that it all depends.  Thomas J. Nelson, REALTOR ® CRS,ABR,PSA,RCS-D, ePRO provided some very positive answers to your question.  I was a member of a union many years ago and I can answer that they were a necessary evil and definitely improved the work environment.  Worker union participation has waned over the years and their future is uncertain in my book so we shall see.  OBTW, I don't mind being a member of NAR even tho I don't like dues.  I do take advantage of their offerings and will sit this dance out until we see what happens in the industry.

I've said for years that requiring membership to allow access to our own listings is nothing short of forced unionization. 

I feel strongly that our individual states can do a better job of enforcing CoEs and lobbying for what our respective states needs, not what is needed on the other side of the country. We can do all of this at a far less cost to members.

It started out as a means to give agents respectability in an industry that had issues with integrity. By issuing national standards, NAR had hoped to give customers confidence that there were principles to which ALL agents were held. Now NAR's relevance has waned and we are back to "buyer beware"; sad.
