We finally got rid of ours about 6 years ago. The ONLY thing I don't like is having to keep my cell phone on all night. The pings and dings from social media platforms sometimes wake me up in the middle of the night.

The landline went away a long time ago, it's a thing of the past and seems to serve no purpose in today's world other than to receive spam calls, haha.

Cut the cord on the home landline about 15+ years ago. Was only getting calls from telemarketers and the kids would never answer the phone.

I kept a landline until Max passed away. I kept it for emergency purposes. Landlines are tied to a physical address, so when you call 911, they automatically know where you are, even if you can't tell them where you are.

I have both.  The landline phone I have (Plantronics) is amazing. Sound quality with headphones is far superior to the cell phone.

We still have our land line because it would be challenging to inform everyone who has our number that it will be disconnected and they will need to call a new number...one of our cell numbers.

I  kept home line for dedicated fax. Title companies and attorneys have fax #s and use them, because many legal documents in this business require wet signatures. Cell service in this area can be spotty. Mountains, rivers, and weather can affect cell and internet service. Another plus of land lines is, when people see a local area code and first 3 #s of phone #, they know they are calling someone local. If someone breaks in house, or is out trying to steal a vehicle in our driveway, i can just call 911 and set phone down, while i get my gun, and EMS knows our address and where to send police.

I still have a house phone/fax machine connected to my landline. Only get telemarketer calls. I think about getting rid of it from time to time, but I have had the number since 1996 so it's kind of difficult to let it go.

We have both. I do not want all of those calls coming in on my cell phone.

Dolores uses hearing aids so we use a caption call phone.

  • Operates like a normal landline phone, but with extra amplification, tone control, and FREE word-for-word captions of what the other caller is saying. Perfect for hearing loss, seniors, etc.

just cell phones at my house, but office and my parents have land lines.  In fact my office still has a dedicated fax.  I rarely use it for me, but often have people stop in and ask to fax something.  Makes for a good community service.

Just a cell phone. We had a home built in 2019, and have the outlets just in case we wound up getting phone service here. BUT we are 1/2 mile from the road and didn't think the expense of pulling a phone line up here justified the service.

I had a landline for my parents we would speak 3-4 times a day. Cell phones didn't work so well for them. Landline phones are much more reliable, at times our cell phones would loose signal but our landline never did. It gave me peace of mind when I wasn't home.

Even if your home is pre-wired for a house line, it makes no sense. Cell phones, in the billions, are the mainstay. I never thought phone booths or coin phones would leave but here we are. Bye-bye landlines

We still have our houseline phone number that works through service provider Magic Jack which works through the internet, so no physical landline. Since Magic Jack has a low yearly fee, we have kept our landline number to direct calls we do not want to go to our cell phones.  It also provides a screening question when a caller calls so we avoid spam on that line.

Yes.  Cell phone networks are only designed to support 10%-15% of their users at any one time and most cell sites do not have any form of backup for a power outage and those that do, typically only have a couple of days worth of power/fuel.

In the event of a major disaster, you may not be able to make a call out on your cell phone.  A true "POTS" landline will not have that problem.  VoIP lines are going to be impacted by your internet's ability to stay up.

Some of my customers do have the land line to receive calls from out of the country relatives. They say that it works better than a cell phone when receiving calls. I gave up my land line about seven years ago or so. All I was getting was spam calls and telemarketers.

We've been living at our mountain house for quite some time now.  There is no cell service 10 miles either direction.  We have high speed internet, including Fiber optic, but zip cell towers nearby.

I get VoIP if I stay close to the modem, but even walking out into the yard the cellphone calls will drop.

So, we have a good old-fashioned land line!
