Fred, When we were looking for a new home in the WV/VA/MD area, Z is the site that we found the easiest to use. It wasn't the one that helped us find the land we actually purchased (we used Google maps, county tax records and scouring names to call them to find the off market 10 acres we actually bought). And I still use Z to track the area sales for the new area we're going to.

Like or not, Zillow has carved out a presence & it is holding. The others are wannabes. Of course, they all feed off the MLS which is due to agents plying their trade. The buyers are always there, wanting to be stirred, encouraged & prodded including getting them prequalified and trigger pulling ready to purchase should something surface. Almost all renters are candidates for purchase if you show them how. Also, let's not forget the trade-up market either. They are always susceptible to change if it favors

I mostly see people using Zillow and Realtor.com. Don't know anyone who uses Yahoo or Redfin (well, maybe one who used Redfin). Once I put my own clients and prospects into my mls search process, they seem to use that to search for homes.

We don't have an MLS in my market (likely one of the last markets not to have one. As a result, the site that gets the most traffic in my market is Streeteasy - built specifically for NYC and about 11 years ago bought by Zillow. Since we don't have an MLS- many agents use Streeteasy like a default tool and while we have an internal brokerage system- as a listing agent, most of the broker inquiries I receive are originating from Streeteasy. It's a consumer facing web site- so buyers use it as well.
I have a love/hate relationship with Streeteasy/Zillow- but I can say this much, it's a much better site for NYC than all the other big public facing listing sites because it was built specifically for our market - i.e. condo vs. co-op (and condop- that category isn't as well defined), common charges and property taxes vs. maintenance charges, whether a building is friendly for pets, parents buying for children, W/D capable apartments, etc.
I don't have stats- but in my last listing almost all buyer inquiries- whether it be a buyers agent or the buyer direct- was coming from Streeteasy and I had strong traffic for that apartment. It was probably at least 95% of traffic from that one source.
