Not sure it will end Twitter - perhaps he can regain some of the sponsors so users don't have to pay.

As to me? No way will I pay. I have a blue check mark now and he wants it back, he can have it - I'm not paying him a monthly fee for him to let me have it back! #NoIndianGiving

Too many bots and imposters on the site. It is an attempt to verify the 'real' from 'pretend profiles'. At one time, it was suggested that ActiveRain charge a monthly fee to all members to prevent spammers. It was well received, I thought.

If it would bring business, a small fee for the Twitter platform is acceptable, in my opinion!

What I have noticed from all of this is how many stupid people have a voice and it is sad that many people listen to these stupid people with voices.  I trust Elon Musk a lot more than I trust any of these politicians or big corporate voices.  From what I understand, it won't change my Twitter experience at all, it will only change for those looking to use Twitter to benefit themselves financially.  I think it will also increase the possibilities for those looking to make financial gain from it as well, so it is sad to see them complaining about having to pay $8/month as the cost of doing business, haha.

   Hi, Bob Crane

I had two Twitter accounts.  One for real estate business, the other for "social" including politics, religion, sports, etc.  I had 54,000 followers on that account, including some major players in the political world.  It was exciting, it was quite frankly, fun!

When they came for the Conservatives, I suffered multiple suspensions of my social account.  54,000 followers including some major players in the political world.   But after they shadow-banned and suspended me for the umpteenth time, enough was enough...  I shuttered it.

Will I go back?  Maybe, maybe not.  I did recreate one of the accounts last week after Elon Musk took over, but only as a placeholder, just in case.

Pay $8 or $20 bucks a month?  Not unless there is ROI to justify the expense.

Many social media sites charge a nominal fee for advanced benefits. It remains to be seen whether Twitter will thrive with an $8/mo fee

I won't pay. In fact, until Elon purchased it I had minimized my presence on it. No impact on my business... a blue check won't provide additional impact.

When you charge money for something that used to be free, you will lose customers.

If it was never free, but you always charged, customers have a higher tolerance.

In other words, the difference between free and $8 is far greater (800%) than the difference between $8 and $16 (100% increase).

As for me, I seldom go to Twitter, so "No" I would not pay. As for the big guys and others who are regular participants, it is too early for knee-jerk reactions that many are making. You now what "assume" stands for!

I'M GOING TO PAY IT and get a blue checkmark, hell yeah.
I think it's brilliant. Gab doesn't require paid membership EITHER but if you do you get a 'PRO' button and it runs on donations so they are NEVER beholden to any advertiser or corporation 'opinions'

Bigger question: how many of us would pay subscription fee to the NEWS OUTLETS we watch so THEY are not under the thumb of their advertisers.

Story: LOL back in the 80s one of my DJ friends, GOLD LEVEL TALENT made a crack on the air about one of the local advertisers, a furniture company, who had a known reputation for quick reposessions of anything bought on 'store credit'. Coming out of the spot, he whispered 'better pay your bill' and the OWNER called the sales manager and said FIRE HIM OR LOSE ME. They fired this super valuable talent. Who went on to much better things, so their loss.

This undue influence is on steroids now compared to 40 years ago!

Twitter is based on quick, easy access to comment and interact. It's not going anywhere. Same can be said for Active rain too. How to monetize a business is challenging. Twitter made its money on its concept. Even mismanaged, it paid off in the hundreds of millions for the owners. As far as paying a monthly fee to text someone? I do it for free now.

I is like everything else including Active Rain.
Membership has it's privileges.
Yes, many will pay. And when Twit proves to be the perch of the well healed elite, it will THRIVE.
Many will continue sending Zdevil $1,000 a month. The perception of privilege opens the checkbook.
If twit is to be one's sandbox, it is better to buy some privileges. Like all things on the internet, those paying have their messages prioritized and elevated.
And this is the real threat to democracy, in this information age the real stuff is hidden behind paywalls. But they want the population to focus on other issues as the threat.
I imagine using twit is an excellent strategy to pressure sleepy Joe to pay Elon for the assets he has deployed in Ukraine. After all, everyone else is being paid except for the most crucial system. STARLINK.
