I've never had one. My wife has had a couple as she has a rare bone disorder which was just discovered 3.5 years ago on a x-ray totally a fluke they were looking for fracture in her neck, they found a tumor in the top of her arm. She said she just goes to her happy place and blocks the horrible noise out.

Yes, had one done many years ago after a car accident and almost hyperventilated once inside. The newer ones are less like an endless tunnel and more open, thankfully! Hope you get good results, Fred.

Hello Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate I haven't done it, but my mother had MRI done and she got scared from the MRI machine.

My son had two over the years for his knees and torn ACL's. He would confirm your uneasy experience. Noisy, boring and definitely confining. The rest of the description I cannot repeat in this forum.

VERY recently Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate and at least 3 more in the past. I always pretty much sleep through them.

I had two of them in 2020 for my knees... torn miniscus in both and in my left knee torn in two places. For some reason the noise has never bothered me even though they gave me ear plugs. 

They have open ones by me.  Sounds remind me of a night club.  Hard to keep still and not dance and fist pump!

Dont know that I would do one of these just for fun, they are kind of expensive.

I have had a few of them however they did not restrain me as much as they did to you.

No, but my dad had many of them and he was so claustrophobic he hated them. But they have open-sided MRI machines now, that's kind of a throwback right there isn't it?

Yep.  I've done the regular ones (in the dark tube)... sometimes they give you a helmet with a mirror in it so you can see out the end of the tunnel. Sometimes they give you headphones and music to listen to (I don't quite understand either, since they say no "metal" can be in there).

And I've done the "open" MRIs, which are hardly "open", but better.

Neither are fun, but they're definitely an experience.

I've had one. I didn't love it but it wasn't all that bad for me. It helps if there is music playing.

I have not, and I 'm not sure how I'd handle it. It does not sound like fun.

Those clacking noises are quite annoying especially since you don't know when they come up. I would ask for ear plugs. 

Claustrophobia. Those horizontal tubes just won't work. I know it and didn't even consider going in there.
Fortunately, there are alternatives to being prone in a coffin like tube.
But to keep mentally distracted, I keep my mind focused on, "How long until I need to pee?"
Usually immediately. Then my mind does have something else to focus on.

Endured 37 days of radiation treatments several years ago. Facemask put over my face to hold my head in place. Modern day torture device.

Yes, I have. Thank you for the reminder.  Not moving for 45 minutes and listening to the LOUD pounding, tapping, and thumping is torture! 

The more they improve those machines the louder they get. 

I wear an eye mask, ear plugs, and cushioned ear muffs and do my very best to get into a meditative state. 

I had one about two years ago, and it was in a chair.   It was for my neck, so maybe they have different machines for upper body MRIs.

Have never had an MRI but had a catscan recently that looked similar to the picture 

I have had about 3 or 4 of these in my lifetime. The ones where you are fully enclosed, arms at sides, encased in a hollow tube, with little or no movement, where the only way out is to crawl, and wiggle can be very revealing and a good measure of your own ego and its pride-strength. Fear manifests itself in the form of helplessness followed by extreme panic. Even people in the business will tell you this if they can trust you to handle it. What to do besides working on lessoning of your ego by seeking humility? Until you get a grip, opt for the machine that is not fully enclosed. They are out there by necessary demand! Meanwhile, if you can practice a form of meditation, it works wonders. I did almost an hour of stillness which amazed the operator who commented I did very well compared to others. I also tried extensive praying, which not only helped me in and out, but the time sped-by miraculously. Much to learn public and private in this short journey called life. Thank you for your sharing this

yes a couple & there is no being tied down & no helmet. 🤪 You should write screenplays. Will say it is very loud. How they keep you 'still' is they put you or your parts in stabilizers. 

LOL you explained it very well Fred! So well in fact they tried to give me one of those many years ago and I couldn't do it.  They got me out of there - fast! I had no idea I'd react that way....weird.

Knock wood, I haven't Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate I am a bit claustrophobic though. If you can wear headphones and listen to music that would work for me but I tend to "dance" when I listen so I suppose that wouldn't be good.

Yep, had a few, head first in, Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate . Once in, you can't get out on your own. Plays trick on your mind. It is like being in a closed coffin, except for the white light.

Helps if you take a little special pill beforehand. Go to lala land and enjoy sweet thoughts. I was told you can smile in an MRI machine.

The other idea is to count the minutes in your head.

And the last one, have the operator technician talk to you and give you the rundown on many sessions, and how long each takes. Then you do a countdown in your mind with the technician.
