Facebook, the social media network, is not changing its name, Facebook , the company, is.

Meta will be the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc.

Who cares is my first response.  It's just to say 'nothing to see here' after all the bru ha ha going on with their negative press.  I heard today that this happened very quickly....the whole name change idea thing.  As for google, it's always been alphabet  so not sure what you mean by that?

 

I use FB to keep in touch with a few friends.....very small group. I did delete FB a few years ago as I had far too many 'friends' and it got way to bizarre.  Now it's just real friends...which is fun.

Nothing will change for me. I use FB to keep in contact with a limited number of family and friends. Meta includes all of the FB apps/companies. It is just a re-branding. No real change in the individual components that make up Meta.

I could care less about Facebook these days, it has been horrible for quite a while and it seems that fewer and fewer people use it.  I am more excited about ActiveRain becoming what it should be for the real estate industry.

It's rebranding to get away from bad press.  Similar to when "New Coke" rebranded as "Coke Zero" or when "High Fructose Corn Syrup" rebranded as "Corn Sugar" or "Corn Syrup."

 

I'll still call them "Farcebook" or "Fakebook" and it won't make me use them any more.

The name isn't very catchy...yet. If they succeed in what they're doing, I think it will be a huge change. If you don't keep up with it you may not know what your kids and grand kids are talking about.

I saw a presentation at a Real Estate tech show a few years back showing where your AI can go into a virtual room, meet with a client, explain documents, and have them sign virtually. Buyers can go into homes virtually without ever leaving their house. If FB pulls this off, that is what people will be able to do. If buyers can do that, then the possibilities are endless.

I only saw part of the Zuckerberg FB presentation. I think it is kind of like video gaming meets zoom. Some of what they were talking about wasn't clear to me. 

The technology and what you can do is very cool. However, with it will be the negative things. I really hope before they release it they put some strong controls in place.

I'm not overly fond of Facebook but use it as Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, CRB, Phoenix Broker does to keep up with family and friends. The name change reminds me of what someone does when they want to divert attention from their bad press to something else.

I think they are copying original name change of Ron Artest former laker whose now name is Meta World Peace...Alphabet, Meta, is the garbage wrapped in jam...it is a French expression and I cleaned it up a bit!

Since FB and IG and all the other FB calleral will continue under the existing brands, I see little affect on useage by anyone.
However, if or when the name FB goes away, that will be a brilliant move. And Yes, I would continue using it becuase Messenger is an incredable marketing too.
