The words from the eulogy are stuck in my head
"If success is measured by the number of lives
that he touched,
then he was wildly sucessful".
How do you measure success?
One day at a time.
One client at a time.
One closing at a time.
Do Good.
Do no harm.
Be better tomorrow than I was today.
Happy & Healthy.
Making a Difference in the lives of the people I serve.
Making a Difference in the World.
Spells Success.

Personally?... I'm happy in my life... There's a roof over my head, food on the table and a little money in the bank... I never was one to chase "dollars" as a measurement of success... Contentment and good health were of more concern.

That is really a tough question. It depends on where you are in your life. When I was in school, it was completing another class towards my degree. When I was out of school, it was getting my first professional job, and then getting promoted within it. Having a family was a long term goal and achieving that was great success. Opening a brokerage and succeeding in it was a huge success within the last few years. Now I am looking at defining success based on whether or not we can transition into a great, active retirement sometime within the next 5 years.

How do you measure happiness? It differs by person and not really quantifiable.

That was the title of one of the first blogs that I posted here after I joined AR 10+ years ago. Here's a snippet from it...
Most people measure success in dollars, position or other tangible ways and for years I was one of them...at least until my mentor passed away.

Am I able to live comfortably and do what I want to do. It's not quite the "Are you better off now than you were four years ago" metric, but it works for me.

There is only ONE measure.
SUCCESS is measureable only in the number of lives one helps.
Devine success is measurable only in the number of lives one helps by the touch of their hand.(doing the direct work)
All other iterations of success produce regret when the hourglass nears empty.

I am now retired as a Licensed Mortgage Banker of 51 years. Lent over $1 Billion in mortgages. I now give FREE mortgage advise and I DO NOT REFER any business to current mortgage companies. I feel it's my way to give back after a very successful business. I have no need for money and I am trying to get my heath back from being a 100% Disabled Marine Vietnam Vet. Recent events have raised my PTSD and I am sadden by the lost 0f my 11 Marine Brothers and Sisters in Afghanastan. Of course I feel sad for are Army and Navy hero;s. Success is measured in many different ways by people. Money is one, but Heath and Friends are so much more important. As Mark Twain said, "Live your life so well, that even the Undertaker cries at your funeral". Take Care and and success to all of you.....

Success (as an agent) is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.
Wealth is a by product of that.

Measure? In small bites, and a "gain" mentality VS a "gap" aka "how far have I come" (if I see progress & growth it's a success) VS the "gap" mentality of "I still have so far to go" and seeing the present as a failure.

For me, success is being happy to wake up to what awaits me every day (vs. the true story of routinely waking up with an audible "ugh" first thing in the morning). Now contentment... that's a whole other story. ;)

Success is a relative aspiration unique to each individual.
We all have our goals in life, career, wealth and so forth.
Sometimes sucess is the achievement of these goal, and most of the time it is in finding and recognizing happiness.
