I don't believe any "news sources" are reputable these days. It is a sad sad world that we live in where we don't even get to know the truth. Maybe 20 years from now we will know the truth and what agenda was being pushed.

I think we had more deaths Spring of 2020, and I didn't get any listings due to COVID. Had not heard of a whole family passing.

Hve not seen any increased activity as of yet in downtown Chicago which still has a glut of condominiums available.

500/day from covid. I do NOT believe that number.
People die EVERY DAY from many things, from poor lifestyle choices to genetics to just old age and I wish folks would quit defaulting everything to effin CV. Delta variant, okay commies.
WILL we be able to handle the aging out population, vacancies and its effect on our inventory? Sure.
Here's what CDC says:

My mom lives in a 55+ community alone, and could be close to death. Her place will be for sale. She has a reverse mortgage. But, people have always dieing in that community even before covid, and I haven't seen much difference in the pre-covid and covid market. The owners died for a variety of reasons from cancer, flu, old age, etc.

I don't think you'll see this surge, Fred. If you compare the deaths of our population in 2020 to previous years, there's hardly any statistical change at all. The fear mongering media won't mention that, though.

You're being "tongue in cheek" about those being reputable, right? I'll wait to see what InfoWars and Breitbart have to say, they've been months ahead of the curve on everything so far and usually right on the money too. The Wuhan Flu's existance, the WIV lab leak, cameras in Nest thermostats, social credit system in the US (deplatforming of conservatives from banks and other service providers)... so far 100% and months ahead of everyone else.

Not all of these people would own a home or live alone (aka no co-owner)... there is no telling how many additional homes would come on the market based on that tidbit.

What a sad way to add to our needed inventory!
I don't think that the number of houses that will enter the market for sale due to Covid deaths will substantially change the existing market dynamics.

I question reputable versus propaganda that the public buys into here. The equity firms are gearing up to scoop up these opportunities so its in line with the coming regime. Otherwise it will be supply and deman as the cycle of our world continues to spin.

I agree with many of the answers above. It is insensitive for the news to report on. It didn't change the Real Estate market before. If anything, the Pandemic is partially to blame for the housing shortage because of the shortage of lumber and other materials.

Visit with George Orwells famous works both 1984 & Animal Farm as to the news agencies and governmental sources and their data-reporting and agendas. As to how the RE market is affected? One third of America is retiring. There are major shifting, migrations and stay puts plus the predictable/obvious coming & going. Furthermore, people have been and are dying and being born every second (and will continue) for centuries and lastly, one can die of a specific ailment (?) or a combination of body failures. Today, if you include covid as a contributing cause of death, the collateral contacts make claims for reimbursements. LITTLE HUMOR: I am reminded of the ending of the 1933 King Kong... As King Kong is being killed on top of the Empire State Building - shot down by fighter planes - Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong), the cynical film-maker who captured Kong on Skull Island, says the memorable last line: “Oh no, it wasn't the airplanes. It was beauty killed the beast.
Oh it wasn't old age, tired organs, disease, cancer, poisons, accidents, combos NO...it was COVID that killed em...LOL

Fred, is this a serious question or did you ask it to fire up Ken?
On a (not so) totally unrelated note, about 30 years ago, when I was working in Western Massachusetts, the head of the county Probate Court got in trouble for selling leads to real estate agents of people who died before the paperwork for the probate cases were processed. This was before everything was online and notice had to be published in the newspaper. It allowed the real estate agent to contact the family to try to get the listing before anyone else.
I guess we should keep an eye on the bank accounts of coroners for an uptick of unusual cash deposits.

Not likely to have an impact in most of the country, however there are a few states that seem to be doing their best to keep covid alive and thriving.

I'm watching for the common flu to show back up, it disappeared completely. In the meantime, biased media outlets are selling fear to the gullible masses like cotton candy and waffle cakes at the county fair!
Have not received any business from Wuhan flu deaths up to this point.

There will be no big surge from these deaths. The families will usually stay in their homes if they can.
Many communities have an inventory shortage.

More immediately is the silent casualties being created by the CDC moritorium. It is clear the WOKS have no inclination to address the needs of the small investor who can not collect rent. The house in which the investor lives is in jeapordy.
The Bank of Amercia casued financial callaspe of 2008 taught many how to delay foreclosures and the tools needed to solve any 'glut' problem.
As Ken Jones mentions, the big companies that bought a lot of the Bank of America caused foreclousures will be ready to ensure more Americans RENT instead of buy.
It is always important to be aware EVERYONE is lying.
It is nearly impossible to know what Truth is without devine revelation.
In the meantime, there remains a market to address that is labeled 'Unintended Home Owner." These poor souls are in search of solutions. But they can not be delivered on the wings of vultures. It is a delicate dance.
When one hear, "How did you get this address" the red flag is at full mast.
"Ahhh, there's a mail box out front' is not the response they are wanting to hear.
