Nope, and we wouldn't take one if they were giving them away.

Not a chance. Somehow whoever controls energy in TX decided to automatically adjust theromostats (they somehow controlled) to turn the AC up to save energy. No such thing as Free folks.

Don't take anything free from the Government, they want total control over you.

When living in Florida, FPL replaced electric meters to monitor and decrease power at certain times. Not popular, but they got it done. It never really effected us.

There are always strings attached. They had that program for a while with Edison too. You could install a cutoff switch on your AC so on the super hot days Edison could force you to bake.

We have heard stories of late of electric companies remotely adjusting thermostats to which they were directly connected.

Yes, often installed on something like the water heater since they will not have that much of an effect during the day.

I live in California ... and yes, I saw the free program ... and the fine print. I am not at all interested in a free handout.
There truly is no such thing as "free". Someone always pays.
I am glad you got your mom off the darn program.

Here it's not done by thermostat, but something they install at the meter. I just said no. We do bump our programable thermostat up a notch when we're not home or even when it's super hot outside 71 feels good when it's 80 and 75 feels good when it's 95.
