Fred, my wife Sharon inherited a couple of hundred grave plots as her father sold the non-profit cemetery 5 acres of his adjoining farm ground and worked out a deal to keep 1 acre of grave plots for his family that the cemetery would maintain without charge.  We had no need for 300 cemetery plots so we gifted back her share of the plots as the town cemetary is a non-profit organization and received a nice tax deduction for the gifting.

The price per plot for the gifting dedution came out to around $700 per plot, I believe.  We did keep 60 plots though, and I have so much fun truthfully telling the cemetery plot telemarketers that we own 60 plots and have no need for theirs and ask them if they want to buy some of ours!

I suggest you consult with the people at the cemeteries - assuming you are in the market to buy one or two plots and find out what they would charge.

Also, you may want to see if they can sell them for you on consignment - for a 10% fee.

I imagine, even if in high demand (like real property) that the value is directly tied to what a buyer is willing to pay.

Let us know how this works out for you,  Fred Griffin Tallahassee Real Estate

I have no idea, Fred Griffin Tallahassee Real Estate .  I have never even thought about it until you asked.  I know there's a cemetery near Half Moon Bay in CA that sells their plots at a hefty price.  Some of the plots overlooking the ocean are in high demand.  They also have a service where Buddhist monks will come and pray for the dead every month or so.  It gives the family a sense that their loved one is taken care of even afterlife.

Just when you think you've seen every question asked - leave it to you, Fred to uncover another interesting one.  Sure, I could say - the plot is thickening or this line of queries may be considered cryptic by others but I'll wait and see the variety of answers you uncover.  Good luck. . .

I have NO idea! What is so crazy is that Ray and I were just talking about that this week.

I told him I hadn't quite decided if I want to be burned to a crisp or eaten by worms so, no need to buy a plot just yet! LOL

In either case you want to beat Roselawn's & Manasota's prices to be competitive. One ad in the local papers should be good enough.

Fred Griffin Tallahassee Real Estate I think a call to the local funeral homes would be your best start. Many people don't plan ahead.

Cemetery plots are real estate and I have a friend who deals in cemetery plots. I remember when my mother passed and we went to local cemetery to make arrangements for her burial, they were very disappointed to find that she had purchased the plot next to Dad when he passed years earlier.

My friend is licensed in California so cannot help you and, of course a plot in the San Francisco Bay Area would be priced differently than the plots that you own.

Contact the cemeteries where the plots are located and determine the value for the plots and for an offer to purchase them from you or a referral to a representative who can help you.

I would check with the cemeteries, and also with the families that surround, or are near to your plots.

I sell estate homes, Fred, but the cemetery plots is not a niche I've ever considered.

Fred, since I steer FAR away from death if I can, never thought about anyone owning plots before they die, let alone more than one.

Not a clue of value. I know the plots in the cemetery (private not public) go for $2000 each where we live.

Is that a real estate niche?

I would suggest talking to the cemetery administrators, I am sure that they would be the first stop for anyone wanting to purchase a plot there.

I actually would talk to a local undertaker to ask what he thinks they are worth.  And potentially search public records for recent sales.  I have a free plot for me and my wife in the veterans cemetery so it's not something I ever thought about.
