The U.S. Constitution provided for a federal district under the exclusive jurisdiction of U.S. Congress. This is not a state! No!

NO ! If they want representation so bad return the land to the State of Maryland and leave the Mall , Capitol & White house as D.C. similar to Vatican City.

sure, why not. I believe they have to vote for it statewide. At the same time, let's ask Puerto Rico also.

The Constitution has been amended in the past and can be amended again.

700,000 people live in the capital without representation in Congress, despite paying more federal taxes than many in other states.

It does seem that statehood with 2 senators representing only 700,000 people would give those senators and their votes way to much power.

In the end, the decision about statehood for D.C. will be all about politics.

The constitution also did not allow women to vote until we fixed it with an amendment. The founders knew the constitution would need updating which is why they set up the amendment process. There are some great changes/amendments to the constitution.

No, I don't think it should be. As DC was defined in the Constitution I would think that document would have to be changed and ratified, DC is to be separated from the other States

I like having 50, but I am not adverse to it and Puerto Rico becoming states. I suppose if DC does, they are going to have to take off the "Taxation Without Representaion" slofan on their license plates.

A sensitive subject for sure but one that is completely without merit. A good rabbit hole might be to research why there are three "districts" in the world would be to take a look here: https://t2conline.com/what-every-american-should-know-washington-dc/

Puerto Rico first... I, personally, don't think any resident of any territory or "district" should not have federal representation... It's voter suppression... You have to live by the rules but can't have a representative to voice the opinions?... Bullshit!
