Warm air rises, fans clockwise to force air down.
Cool air falls, fans counterclockwise to bring air up. 

Vaulted ceilings especially need this!

Well, no... and I do neither, Fred. Why? Because I have no ceiling fans in my house... I'm a chandelier kind of girl, myself! 😉

I do have two ceiling fans on my front porch and one on my screened porch... but to be honest I've never turned any of them on in the 15 years since I built my home... so I guess you could say I don't change those either!

I just keep mine always facing down. Might be different if i had a vaulted ceiling. Speaking of fans, dont fly your drone in your living room with the fan on 

We have awesome fans that can do lots of amazing things.....LOL!  All with touch of one key pad!

No ceiling fans in my home.  They were removed when I decided to incorporate feathered pets into my home.  

I leave mine clockwise all year.

Pushing the heat down in winter versus drawing the heat up in summer.

When we had them we did, sans ceiling fans at the moment.

I'm in So Cal.  I keep mine on the cool setting year round!

ARe you suggesting I shoild know something about fan rotation, blade angles and laws of thermo-dynamics? 
All I know for sure is Stop the blades before attempting to dust them.

Sure do, just makes sense to push warm down in winter, pull it up in summer. Comfort, energy savings are win win to change the fan direction.

Clockwise in the winter and counterclock wise starting in spring.

When I was in Florida yes, here in Chicago no ceiling fans.
