I've NOT had a single day in 10 years that I've not been able to blog here, leave comments, etc. if I chose to.  Temporarily losing a month's worth of work?  Stuff happens.  I expect they'll get it fixed.  Maybe not as quickly as we'd like, but for anyone that's been here and extended length of time, we should have enough evergreen posts built up that we can "lose" a month's worth of posts for a week or so without any significant impact to our business.

We've all known for the last few years that we're more or less on our own here.  Lights on, doors open, don't expect much more than that or you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Many prolific bloggers have left AR over the years. I guess it's always been fluid in that way as it has evolved over the years through several ownership changes. This is the worst situation I've been through as far as the actual function of the platform. It's very frustrating for those who really count on it to function properly.

That said, I'll be here as long as I enjoy the connections with the people here. Once that's gone, it will serve no purpose for me.  We'll see.

It can't hurt to have a back-up blogging platform. It's easy enough to do. There will always be gitches with websites, hosting, bandwith, limits set, hackers, denial of service problems, back-ups, security, mergers, plug-in problems, lost support, etc, etc. It happens with every company, so changing horses doesn't always equal a better and faster horse.

I used to come on AR to learn from members, and spent a lot of time blogging. Looking back, I blogged to clarify things in my head, but also hoping it would reach potential clients. Looking back, I spent way too much time at it, although I ended bup making some friendships and got some business. 

But the last year or so I've pulled back from AR and other non-producing efforts. I am spending some serious marketing dollars promoting my brand. And it's really paying off.

That being said, you should always have your own site.  You will be more successful that way.  I've had mine since 2011 and continue to use AR as an "add on."

I'm always thinking of all sorts of things. It's good to make sure you're always considering all options.

As for me, I still find the interactions with others fun and informative, and I still like to learn new things here, so I'll stick around. But I'm also going to make sure I have contact info for those who are not on FB or Instagram so I can stay in touch, just in case this site ceases to exist. You never know! Nothing is forever.
