No. Any worry is pointless. While it's good that folks take precautions to avoid getting sick - one must watch the media and the pot stirring merchants of chaos. So far this year in the US there have been approximatley 16,000 to 18,000 deaths, 105 of them children from the plain old flu virus. For the coronavirus we're looking at around 100 cases and 9 deaths. I'm not saying don't be aware - just please have all the data in perspective. Based on the numbers above, there's no significant reason for folks to stop sending their kids to school and boarding themselves up to protect themselves. The threat of the coronavirus is much much less than the standard flu.

Clearly it is affecting global commerce. It will affect the USA economy.

Not because of the lethality of the virus but because of the paranoia created by the media needing something to talk about other than Bernie and Warren.

I do not think it will have measurable influence on the ability of qualified buyers to purchase a home, unless the DC tax consuming population decide to mandate gvm't workers take a voluntary shut down to stay home with pay. 

That means FHA approvals may come to a halt.

I have clients talking about it. I think we are taking pre-cautions for it. But we take the seem pre-cautions every winter to avoid the regular flu too. The issue is the media making it political.  

Worry doesn't solve anything, take precautions & live your life.

It is causing stocks to reset so that buy low and sell high kicks in. It is lowering interest rates. It promotes "there is no place like home" making Real Estate the safe haven to go to and purchase. It has promoted in general better health standards. Flu related products are thriving. This is a compliment as well as a reset for the economy, business and personal conduct. All good too

What is affecting my 2020 business is my being in a new state with new people to market to, new neighborhoods to learn, etc. 

Not in the slightest Joseph Doohan . 2020 looks FANTASTIC for me as a loan closer, especially with the Fed dropping the interest rate yesterday. I'm more concerned that a socialist will be elected in November but then again I believe the chances of that are less then North Dakota magically becoming a tropical island.

There is always a real estate market. Favoring buyers, sometimes sellers or both. When interest rates were 18+ adjustable, it was not the end of the world or chicken little sky is falling time. Get the biggest piece of the real estate market than others in it wished you did. Hustle, be creative, stop adding to the buzz on Coronavirus and focus on all the good reasons to buy in your market. Get more listings, take better images, write more descriptive helpful narratives. Expose the real estate, quality of life with greater reach and frequency. Make this members only so the public doesn't freak out thinking real estate market is stalled or whatever opinions spilled out down below in the comment thread.

It is the ultimate in naivete to believe that a global pandemic will not affect our business.

For instance: the downward movement of the stock market will affect those who plan to tap their investment account for the down payment on their new home.

Yes (concerned but not worried) because people often listen to the media hype and get more worked up than they need to. It's now impacting businesses shutting down travel (both domestic and international), offices closing for "deep cleaning", and people not wanting to travel or leave their homes (not to mention a run on masks, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer.)

Am I personally concerned about it? Only marginally.

Absolutely, the stock market relates to most people's wealth as well as consumer confidence.  The virus needs a cure or we will have a rough year.

No. But there will a major impact on our economy.

In times when we as a nation H1N1, 9/11, World Wars why was the president, vice president and speaker of the house seperated for security reasons but with this they are all together and on the podium daily. Is there really a threat? 

No, because I know it will impact business and the economy in general.  Will it be a positive or negative impact?  I lean towards positive.  Real estate is a more stable investment vehicle than stocks and with so many Americans buying up everything in sight, only to find that stuff like medicine, hand sanitizer and masks are out of stock and the factories that make them are in China and shut down, as served to awaken the people to the dangers of overseas production.  My hope is that the people will start demanding more stuff be made in America.  Thankfully, our current political leadership is all about making that happen.
