Not really popular here as it is always freezing. Many people keep their grills going all year but not really nice custom ones.

It's always funny to see someone freezing their butts off cooking brats during a Bears game.

Just about everyone I know has at least one grill and some or us have a small one for us and a huge one for parties.  Grilling goes on all year here in Phoenix so it's common. Especially in the hot summer when you don't want to heat up the house.

Outdoor kitchen would be an understatement.

of course the owner can cook, but also the social bar at the cabana, a sitting/reception area with big screen, sound system, fire or water feature, pool with hot tub and all enclosed and illuminated with all manner of LED appliances. Outdoor kitchens are so common they are not mentioned in properly description in MLS unless it's something special..

Every sfh above 300K has invested resources in outdoor living space with a kitchen.

We grill 365 days of the year up here, like Postal Workers; Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these grillers from the swift completion of their appointed steaks!  We're seeing more and more outdoor kitchens but many of the aspects need to be winterized (or removed) for a good portion of the calendar.   ie tvs don't survive the winters outdoors (today it was -30 degrees Canadian!)

I rarely see them in my market. I am not sure how many people actually cook in my area - or do their own grocery shopping ... it seems to all be done for them, shopping, cooking, cleaning.  We definitely have the year-round weather for outdoor cooking.

Depends on the price point of a home... the higher the price the more likely we are to see some sort of outdoor kitchen beyond a grill.

Not at all in NY. too much snow and cold.  I rarely see them even in $2 million homes. Pools yes, even tennis courts in very high end ones, but outdoor kitchens not so much.  I would guess that they are more popular in northern parts of the county which are further from NYC and hence real estate is less expensive and larger yards.  Lower county not a ton of room unless above $4 million.
