I just read your very upsetting first blog post. Good heavens, that is so awful and changes what I had already said here. The following advice is for an experienced/semi-experienced agent who is changing jobs. Your main focus needs to be to find a reasonable broker.

Here is a list of Realtors/Brokers from AR in Florida. Find the applicable counties/cities on the left column and maybe call and talk to some of them and see if you might be a good fit. Florida ActiveRain

Send out information to your sphere, blog, blog, blog. Brand yourself not your company. Get a generic email address (mimi@mimifoster.com) so no matter where you go you never have to worry about someone not being able to find you. The balloon never got me any business, but how I treated my clients did. Reach out and touch someone and let people know. Get your own logo (within company guidelines). Best of luck to you.

What Ron and Alexandra Seigel said. Besides that, just send out an announcement. I've found that my clients really don't care about my brokerage affiliation... I moved to Coldwell Banker 13 months ago and several of my most long-standing clients just figured it out now... they come to me and not my brokerage. I suggest you spend more time branding yourself.

Are you new in the business or have you recently changed brokerages? "Rebrand" implies a change.

Mail, text, call, visit your friends, clients, leads, prospects, etc. that about your current brokerage and how it will make no difference in your commitment to them. Emphasize the positive.

Make any necessary changes on internet sites...AR for instance...

Jennifer take a little time to think about your over all goals this weekend.  You will allign with the perfect broker for you now. Perhaps ask brokers when you're interviewing this question and listen to what they say. Of course keep your data base and build on building it up....people who know the kind of service you provide will go with you no matter where you land.

If you have been "branding" yourself before, it shouldn't be a big deal to make the switch. On the other hand if all your information comes up as an "ABC" brokerage, it can be a problem.  I just Googled you and you come up as both Coldwell Banker and Keller Williams. I would backtrack and take out my name under the one I WASN"T with.

Home is where the hearth is.

I was with my last company for 20+ years.  I just changed agencies a little over a month ago.

I've made a concerted effort to reach out to past clients, phone, emails, texts, facebook and online marketing.  I've made sure to be 'visible' on broker's tour days.. and have made sure to wear a name badge with my new company identified on it.

A couple of print ads "welcoming Alan May" in our local papers, as well as a Facebook and former client campaign.

I've also made sure to reach out to the other agents I've known and worked with to discuss the "whys and wherefores" of my move, and make sure they know about the move.

I'm careful not to badmouth my former agency.  Honestly I have nothing bad to say about them... I didn't leave because I was unhappy there.. I changed agencies to take advantage of some opportunities that were only available to me at the new agency.

I think I'm off to a good start.  Ask me again in a year.

Oh, Jennifer, I read your first post - HOLY GUACAMOLE! What a nightmare. I'm glad you're free of that but, do take time to interview and select the broker with the highest of integrity for YOU.

For your clients, reaching out to them so that they will know you are with an amazing new broker as soon as you leave will alert them to the fact that you have moved. They are all about YOU anyway, not your broker but, let them know you are excited about the integrity of your new one, for sure!

Then, keep in touch with them - all of them. Your business will be back to normal very quickly. Good luck!

Jennifer Parrish your question honestly made me LOL as I could only envision the branding cattlemen do. That being said what do you stand out in? How big is your market? If you love working on vintage homes go after that market and brand yourself so. If you are the shelter pet queen find a way to market that... the possibilities are endless.

Hi Jennifer,
You've received some great feedback here. I implore you to never never ever use a brokerage email or website. They suck you in by offering it free. I suspect you learned that lesson from your recent horrific experience.  When you interview new offices to decide on an affiliation be sure you are not required to use theirs so you can brand YOU, not them.  I do understand you have to put the brokerage name on all your marketing but you must focus on branding you, not them.

FIrst, make sure you know your state RE rules for branding. If you are changing your brand, start with signs, website and business cards, make an announcement on social media, send your database a notification. Search Google to make sure you update everything online.

You know what it is like to be betrayed. It hurts.....deeply.

I shakes you to the core. Keeps you awake at night, brings you to tears.

It is a lesson and experience that will be with you the rest of your life.

You now know what it is like and accept the obligation to NEVER betray your commitment to those who hire you.  You will fight for them as you had hoped another would have stood up for you.

This is a message that will resonate with those who have an innate distrust from what emerges from the 'sea of smiley faces.'

However, lacking the courage to identify the franchise and brokerage undermines your position.

Assurance of exposure is what compels people/brokers to do the right thing. You have chosen to walk the past of those in the 'sea of smiley faces.'

Compassionate and empathetic are messages that burn hot within you right now. Let your message find wings. Those seeking someone they can trust will be assured by the scars of your struggle.

Internet Marketing & SEO

Work on changing and/or pushing down any entries that you may have on search engines that mention your old brokerage. If a previous client searches for you, you do not want your old brokerage website to show.

Change all online profiles that you have access to, for example, at Zillow, Realtor.com, Facebook, Linkedin, etc.

Search for local directories where you can add your name/business info - it does not have to be real estate only. This will help with local SEO also.

Try having entries like, Jennifer Parrish - Florida Realtor or Jennifer Parrish - Florida Real Estate Agent. Because people will most likely use "Florida" and "real estate agent", or "realtor", in the search term.

The idea is to change, erase, or push down any of your search engine entries that mention the old broker.

Um, you should not be co-branding with any brokerage other than what the law and your broker requires. Your branding is YOU! You could change brokerages annually and other than your second logo, business card and signs, no one would know the difference. So many people think I'm my own broker because of how I brand myself; they rarely realize that Big Block Realty San Diego is where I hang my license vs. what I created and own.

Brand yourself regardless of brokerage.  And read your contract with your old brokerage to see what it says about deals in progress if you leave.  And interview new brokers and find one who is involved day to day and believes in mentoring and training.  I worked for and now own an independant brokerage.  I highly recommend small independant over big box.
