Not really. It's a sign that things are not doing as well as predicted in their business model. Afraid that Z will eat their lunch. This will soon be dissolved as soon as things pick up and become competitors again.

Since their partnership with re/max ended when they started their ibuyer program, I'm not surprised they're looking for another partner.  With open door having financial troubles they need a partnership like this.

 

I don't think it'll benefit either company immensly in the long run.

Impacting consumer behavior?
Redfin actually has stuff consumers like but not so much for the agent.

Opendoor has stuff consumers hope to be true, but reality will come home soon enough.

Be aware, what is really happening here is a joining of forces to market to citizens seeking an alternative to the mess created by NAR, Franchises and the local associations, of which we are all participants.

We can choose to actually do our own market research (not buy it from a marketer or especially believe what comes from NAR) and identify what those value alternatives are. Those agents of courage (and you know what real courage is) can influence consumer behavior.

Meanwhile, the consumer behavior is affected by the prevalence of shiny things also. How much Opendoor and REDFIN spend on marketing will determine consumer behavior.

Our choice today is to choose to be proactive or reactive.
