It's more of a website problem than a RETS/IDX issue.  RETS is a data transmission technology (like HTML) and an IDX is a program to display/search the data (like a web browser).  When I looked into developing my own IDX, I would still need a RETS feed to pull the data from my MLS into my website's IDX.

You may need to pull some additional data points or use enable something in the IDX.

rets is the only way to get the data. Download the rets data into your database and then set up the polygon search from your database. This is how most idx's are set up and i am surprised your developer is putting the rets data directly  on your site.

The problem is not rets, it is your developer.

RETS is the data provided by your MLS. IDX uses that feed to populate your search on your website. 

All IDX's do not pull down all of the RETS data that is available. If maps are available in your MLS and you want it, the IDX should provide it...or you need a new IDX/web designer.

RETS is actually a newer verison of IDX technologies (but is now being replaced by RESO Web API). The problem sounds like it lies in the website developer or idx provider.

This is the way it usually works:

MLS data > RETS standardises the data > IDX gets and readies data for web > Website displays MLS data from IDX service

Like others have mentioned, the RETS data is there.
If you use an IDX service, they have to do the polygon search for you.
If you use RETS directly, you are the IDX, so you have to do it yourself.

Btw, it all will be RESO instead of RETS pretty soon.
