passphrase now. I don't believe that quote one bit. Every place online wants special char's & numbers.
I put a 1 instead of an L that kind of stuff.

It may be counterproductive to use a mixture but, isn't it the best thing to do to protect your accounts from being hacked? I would think pass-phrases would be easier to figure out/hack.

Can't say I've ever given this any thought. When I need to use a combination of letters and numbers I use those that make "sense" to me, so it's not that much of an issue to remember them. There is so much discussion out there on this topic that I bet we could find an article that disputes the pass phrase recommendation and then another one that disputes that article!

btw, you can check your pass phrase securely at https://www.haveibeenpwned.com/passwords.
You can also check to see if any of your accounts have been compromised in a data breach.

However, even the 'passphrase' advocates state you need to change it on a regular basis. I imagine on the 3rd generation of pass phrases into 5 different systems, remembering may once more be problematic.
Passwords are not obtained by 'guessing' the characters but via systemic failures of the systems we believe we can trust. The pass-phrase/password stuff is simply the powerful telling the not so powerful that when bad things happen it's their fault.
